Default 2007 - replacing headlights

I recently bought a used 2007 Murano S. Last night, the driver side headlight went out, both high beam and regular. I'm not very mechanically inclined, but I have always been able to change headlights on my cars.

So, I went to Autozone and gave them the make/model of the car. They asked if I needed the brighter bulbs, which I figured I did....was told they were $99. I had a tough time getting in the tight spot to pull out the socket and replace it, but I managed, but what I was sold didn't seem to match what was in the car. I suppose they could have given me the wrong one, but then I read the user manual, which said when changing headlights/bulbs, you should contact your dealer.

I can't imagine going to the dealer to change my headlight and feel like I'm just failing myself somewhere. Any advice for the mechanically challenged would be helpful!

Welcome to the forum.

$99?!? My guess is they sold you an HID lamp. HIDs were not an option on 2007 S-models. Your 2007 S requires a $10 halogen bulb.

wow, does autozone even sell hid bulbs?
that sounds like a rip off.
shouldn't exceed $10 unless you bought the sylvania silverstar which are about $20

Well, don't I feel like a dope right now? You're spot on, they sold me this:

Sylvania Hid/Headlight (D2S) | 2007 Nissan/Datsun Murano AWD 6 Cylinders A 3.5L SFI DOHC | AutoZone.com

and I'm sure all I need is this:

Silverstar Ultra/Headlight (9007SU) | 2007 Nissan/Datsun Murano AWD 6 Cylinders A 3.5L SFI DOHC | AutoZone.com

Since I opened the package, I'm sure they won't return it. Lesson learned, I suppose. Appreciate the help!

I would not give up so easily.

If the counter-man asked you the year, make, and model and you told him 2007 Nissan Murano S then he should have known when he looked it up that the HID lamp was not the right part for your MO. HIDs were never an option on 2007 S-models. They goofed. They should own up to it and at least give you store credit.

I second that.

I don't know...however...if AutoZone's system takes the specific models into consideration. When I go there for parts, they ask for year, make (AWD or 2WD), and model. Then the parts come up. Maybe the counter guy gave the first part that showed up on his list and didn't bother to recognize HID vs halogen.

Either way, it's understood you have to go with halogen. I would suggest the brightest and whitest bulb on the market when you switch. The standard halogen are not bright enough any more. The Sylvania Silverstar Ultra's are very good. I don't know how long they last though. May not last as long as your typical halogen bulb due to the hotter temps? Not sure.
