Hi guys, new to this forum (and new to the Nissan Murano too).
I have had my 2004 Nissan Murano for just over two weeks now, 64000km, it was going all ok until last night where I have parked it for about two days and drove my other car (longest park within the two weeks). It started instantly, I let it warm a bit as usual and put my stuff into the car etc.; then hop in and drive. But after barely 100m (about 10 secs) it suddenly lose power, (never happened with any of my other brand car before), even if I floor the accelerator the car barely moves, (very panicking), it took me more than one minute to get back where I was, and right after I parked, it stalled. I couldn't restart it after, (like a flat battery), I checked the battery gauge window/hole, seems to be the case. I got a jump starter today and hook it up to the car, it started fine, tried to reverse out of the driveway and back (slowly, didn't go out though). It seems like it's doing it's job. Does anyone know what is going on? or have had this "problem" before? I googled and there's posts about cam-sensors, throttle position sensors or the worst is CVT. Could a flat battery (not enough charge but able to start a car) cause all things to "fail" like this? It will be very dangerous on the road suddenly die like this. Do I need to change battery or sensors? What could be the problem? Any help will be very greatly appreciated. |

Welcome to the forum.
It seems your MO went into "limp mode" to protect itself, and yes, low battery has been known to cause this. A limp mode normally will throw a code however. Unless something catastrophic is happening (other than a dead battery) a restart would clear it up and it will return to normal. If you know you have a bad battery, change it and you should be fine.

First check with Nissan and see if your alternator recall had been done.
Second, read up on these Mo won't start, need help and see if this is the same issue as yours => battery |

Is this alternator recall world wide and for all the Gen 1 MOs?
Can I tell by myself if this has been done or not instead of going to the dealer? Anyway, I have started the car yesterday and drove it to a couple of places, all within 5km, seems to be fine, also feels like nothing happened, (though I might have been extra cautious/sensitive to how to car sounds and responds). I think it might be the battery issue but still not 100% sure, if I was to change a battery what will you long term MO-owner experts recommend the replacement? I will probably take her into the dealer anyway to do the CVT flush. BTW, I am in NZ and the MO is JDM. Thanks |

A CVT flush is not due for your Murano at 64K unless you have a leak.
You must have meant the TCase and Rear Diff fluid service. I had that alternator recall done on my 1st Gen Murano back in 2004 here in North America. I would assume that it also includes worldwide 1st Gen's Mo. Even if you replace your existing battery to a new one, if your alternator is not 100%, then your battery is not being charged and it would get discharged soon enough. If you are still on your original OEM battery from 2004, then its time to buy a new one after 7 years of usage. |

Have drove the car now (now a few hundred ks more) without any problems, seems to be running strong..., probably it was the bad battery (flat) after all...
Still the same battery though, but still keeps the jump starter in the boot ever since just incase... |
