An unusual sound has recently occurred with my '05 Murano (SE model, 55K miles). When sitting in the car and it's idling, there is a "rumbling" sound under the floorboard. It doesn't get worse when accelerating. I think it might actually subside once driving, however not really sure since there are more sounds to the car that could just be drowning it out. When underneath the vehicle, I have found there is a series of three lines that travel from front to the back. These lines are what are causing the sound. You can't hear the sound in the engine specifically. It's most noticeable when sitting inside the car because of the location of the lines underneath. Periodically there is a slightly louder "clicking" sound, but mostly the rattle/rumble from those lines. Any idea what that could be? The car seems to drive ok, but I only drive short distances. Any advice would be appreciated - if its a DIY fix great.....I don't want to take it to the shop unless absolutely necessary.

I don't know what those lines are, but foam pipe insulation from Home Depot is great for insulating pipes that don't get hot...and cable ties secure it nicely.
You should probably also check the exhaust system for contact with the floorboards - that's a more typical cause of contact noise.

Welcome to the forum. Are you sure it is those lines? Is is possible the source of the noise is elsewhere and you are feeling the vibrations in the tubing? If that is the case then you may be hearing/feeling a defective fuel damper. -njjoe

It's very possible that the issue is from something that connects to the lines and it is causing them to vibrate, thus hearing the sound underneath the car. So if its a fuel damper, is it safe to drive the car for now, is it a DIY fix, or do I need to get it to the shop? And if I have to take it to the shop, are we talking major dollar repair or is it a simple fix? Just trying to get an idea of what to expect. Thanks to all of you!

There's a good discussion of the fuel dampers on this forum, including a step-by-step DIY sequence. It's safe to drive as is, but worth fixing soon.

The MO has two fuel dampers. If the problem is with the fuel dampers chances are only one is bad. Check out this thread for more info on the dampers: http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/8...e-dampers.html -njjoe

I looked at the threads related to the fuel dampers, and it seems that although people may be describing the sounds differently, they are all coming from the same general place and the solution is consistent. Seems that the car doesn't have to be taken apart to replace the damper(s) so it can be a DIY job with a little effort. I'll explore this further with some of my local car buffs and hopefully save some money! My car runs GREAT, this is the first time anything has ever raised concern. It's going to my daughter next June, and I'm probably buying another new one for myself!

I am starting to hear a noise from the belt area and was thinking 'is the idle pulley the one to blame?" (i had similar problem in Maxima) but could not find any complaints about it in this forum. Can anyone pls help me find the thread if there is one. If not, does anyone know how to troubleshoot it or change it?
Not sure if this is relevant, but my AC compressor also got a bit louder when ON. i took it to the mechanic and was told that it is just noisy. I would not replace AC compressor just to quite it down as i assume it is expensive, but since the location of ac compressor is near by the belt i was thinking of a tensioner or an idle pulley could be to blame..... Thanks in advance for help.
