*Let me first say that I am not a mechanic and I do not consider myself particularly handy. Anything I can do, you can do too, and probably in less time. I still have to say righty tighty lefty loosy anytime I'm tightening nuts...
I was recently told that I needed to replace the motor mounts in my 2003 Nissan Murano. This is apparently a very common issue with 1st generation Muranos. No word on the newer ones yet. The broken mounts were the front, near the radiator and the front right, near the belts. I was quoted 900$ from one shop and $1000 from the dealer**** nearby, both for parts + labor. Parts alone were around 400$ from the shop and $375 from the dealership. Labor was $100 per hour. I don't know about you, but I can't stomach paying someone $100/hr. for something I can do myself. I found the parts at a local parts store for $315. I read online about motor mounts and watched a single youtube video on how to change motor mounts in a similar vehicle. It took me only 4 hours with only a rachet and a few extensions. I did not even have to jack up the murano as everything was easily accessible. I saved more than 600$ in 4 hours Saturday morning. The way I see it, I saved $150/hr rather than paying someone $100/hr. woot I'm posting this because I want you to know that you too can do it yourself! |

TX DIYer-
I think the percentage of people who are afraid to take a wrench to their cars is quite large and, unfortunately, growing each year. It is good to read a post from someone who is bucking that trend. By the way, normally I prune duplicate posts but in this case it is worthy of an exception. Welcome to the forum. -njjoe
