Thumbs up Murano Motor Mounts

*Let me first say that I am not a mechanic and I do not consider myself particularly handy. Anything I can do, you can do too, and probably in less time. I still have to say righty tighty lefty loosy anytime I'm tightening nuts...

I was recently told that I needed to replace the motor mounts in my 2003 Nissan Murano. This is apparently a very common issue with 1st generation Muranos. No word on the newer ones yet. The broken mounts were the front, near the radiator and the front right, near the belts. I was quoted 900$ from one shop and $1000 from the dealer**** nearby, both for parts + labor. Parts alone were around 400$ from the shop and $375 from the dealership. Labor was $100 per hour. I don't know about you, but I can't stomach paying someone $100/hr. for something I can do myself.

I found the parts at a local parts store for $315. I read online about motor mounts and watched a single youtube video on how to change motor mounts in a similar vehicle.

It took me only 4 hours with only a rachet and a few extensions. I did not even have to jack up the murano as everything was easily accessible. I saved more than 600$ in 4 hours Saturday morning. The way I see it, I saved $150/hr rather than paying someone $100/hr. woot

I'm posting this because I want you to know that you too can do it yourself!

TX DIYer-

Nice job!

I think the percentage of people who are afraid to take a wrench to their cars is quite large and, unfortunately, growing each year. It is good to read a post from someone who is bucking that trend.

By the way, normally I prune duplicate posts but in this case it is worthy of an exception.

Welcome to the forum.

So in removing each motor mount, you did not need to support the engine from below when installing the new one in? I thought it will dip a little causing alignment problem for the bolts.
