Default Rear Bumper Damage; Don't ask!

Can I replace the stainless bumper protector myself or do I need a professional?

Are you talking about that shiny metal strip that is an option for the Murano. It resides on the top of the rear bumper on Murano's with that option. Anyway, that option can be easily installed by most anyone. The piece fastens on the top of the rear bumper with 3m double sided tape that comes with the protector at time of purchase. The damaged protector can be removed without a lot of effort..

Heat the rear bumper protector well with a hair dryer on high or a heat gun on low. You want it very warm to the touch. Grab some nylon fishing line, and holding it like floss, start on one end and slowly pull it under, across and out the other end. Use Goo-Gone (let it sit on for a while) to remove the tape residue. Works like a champ. Hope this helps and take care!

I am not sure this technique will work on 2nd-gen MOs. I believe the bumper protector on those MOs have tabs that clip into slots in the bumper. The line would get hung up on the tabs.

The 2nd Gen MOs rear bumper protector is held on with 3M VHB (very high bond) adhesive tape only. Tabs on the stainless steel portion hook onto the plastic surround/frame. The surround/frame is held to the bumper with the adhesive tape. Fishing line works great. I know, because somehow I ended up putting mine on crooked the first time.

Take care!
