Exclamation IVT control Solenoid Valve - P0021

Recently I had a code come up for the camshaft position sensor bank 1. I ended up just ordering in new sensors for bank 1 and bank 2 and replacing them both at the same time. A few days later I get code P0021 and P0430 and noticed a sort of metallic "chatter" when the engine shifts from first to second gear. It doesn't happen all the time and you have to be listening fairly closely to hear anything. I read a bunch different info about failing pre-cats and got scared so I decided to just take it up to my mechanic to let him take a look

He informed me that the catalytic converters looked fine but that I needed a new intake valve timing control solenoid valve in bank 2. He also said that this is what was causing the P0430 code to come up as well. I was quoted $500 to replace the part out because he has to physically turn the camshaft when replacing the IVT control solenoid valve.

I did some research in the service manual and it would appear that the IVT control solenoid valves are both directly on top of the engine and are just bolt on / plug in parts. Am I mistaken? Can't I just pick up a new one, bolt it on and be on my way? Why would the camshaft need to be "turned" to replace this part? Has anyone done this fix themselves or have any insight?

Thanks!

I forgot to mention that it is a 2003 Murano with 160,000 miles.

m-

Check the service manual. It outlines a test procedure that may help you confirm the problem. All that is required is a voltmeter.

I know that the solenoid has failed, I'm just asking if it is difficult to replace myself or should I have someone else do the work

How did you get this fixed? did you replace the IVT solenoid your self? How do you test for it? I am also having the same P0021 code after changing the both cam shaft sensors. my car is about 7 years old with 60k miles only.

thanks.

Looking to hear whether anyone has done this or not- quoted roughly $150 for both Cam Position Sensors at parts store. Wondering if an IAT sensor may also be in order along with 100k tuneup and intake manifold gaskets all in one swoop...

thanks!
