Default 2003 Murano whining noise

Hey...I just noticed my Murano making a whining noise....it's almost a tire noise on the pavement type noise. Anyone know what or why? Don't believe it's my new tires, though....still curious if someone might have an idea.

Also my check engine light has been on for a long time. They say it's my catalatic converter needed attention. Can't afford that right now. Does that mess with my gas mileage?
Thank you everyone.

Just a girl.....lol

How about you start by rotating the tires to eliminate that as a source?
Not always easy to see a problem with a tire causing noise.

My suggestions....

#1: Inflate tires properly and rotate tires front/back...that sometimes eliminates tire noise.

#2: Get check engine light fixed.

There's not a lot more you can do until you get the unknown problem indicated by the check engine light fixed. It could easily be caused by something which also results in a noise.

Almost sounds as if the engine is trying to shift into the next gear, but, it doens't. It acelerates fine. Doesn't shift hard. That is the sound I get as I speed up....like it wants to change gears, but, doesn't. RPM's run about 1 1.5 in driving gear.
