I cant believe that im writing this , but i am new , proud owner of 2004 murano with 64000 miles on it !
I thought about getting a grand cherokee 2004 , but i realised that i am in love with murano .... This is my second thread and i am thankful to all the guys who will answer to my questions .. Probably dumb questions , but what can i do , i hope i will learn something ![]() (Car was inspected at Nissan dealership and everything was ok,no leaks, squeaks,or anything like that)... 1.I would like to convert my orange screen to full color display..Is that possible and how much would that cost ? ![]() 2. Im wondering if my remote key has an option to start up my car? Remote start...Can it be programed ? ![]() 3.My Murano is AWD .. During the summer or spring should i use AWD LOCK ? I realy dont need all wheel drive, roads are nice, rains are rare... And i think that my MPG will be better if i lock it ? ![]() 4.Since it has 60000 miles , should i change cvt fluid ? I found a fluid for about 7 $ per liter ... And i need 7 liters.. Does it have to be Nissan`s fluid ? ![]() 5.Any tips/tricks about maintance ? Is there something that need special care? If my cvt show signs of cracks,or something like that ( i hope not ) could i patch it up , fix it somehow ? I WILL POST MY PICS IN A COUPLE OF DAYS , I got million of question and i am really excited that i am a part of Murano familly now ![]() SPECIAL THANKS TO ZEBELHKAN , AMINDU , PRIDBOR , NJJOE , NIPSIRC FOR PROS AND CONS OF MURANO ... I LOVE MY MURANO !

Congrats. I bought my 04 with about the same mileage. Here are a few of the answers I can help with.
2. No remote start option. One cool trick you can do with the remote is to hold in the unlock button and it will roll down the front windows. 3. NEVER use the AWD button. It is only there for if you are stuck. It locks up your transfer case. It can lead to a $3000+ repair. The AWD does a great job all on it's own. 4. Per Nissan you do not have to change the CVT fluid. Plus you have warranty on it until it 10 years old 120k miles which ever comes first. |

Thank u bro! ... Ok... I can live without remote start... So i should not use AWD LOCK button ? I should let my murano be in AWD all the time ?
Really bad thing about that is that i dont have that warranty, that warranty is available only in USA.. I am in Europe(SERBIA) ... I will take a good care of it , i will `baby it` as long as its mine...! |

Congrats on your MO. You'll love it! So...to answer some of your questions:
1) Check out my thread for upgrading from orange screen to navigation: OEM Navigation Added to 2004 SL. It can be done but you'll have to find the parts to do the upgrade. I got lucky and found everything on an Ebay auction. There has been some talk; but no confirmations, that you can take the 06-07 MO hardware and wire it in to an 04. Signals should be the same but connector heads are different. Just as long as you get the correct parts for whatever years you should be fine. 2) MO's don't come automatically programmed for auto-start. It would have to be an aftermarket system to install. Good try though! ![]() 3) AWD lock is only to be used if it's slippery outside. I've never used it in all the years I've owned my 04. Your MO is automatically AWD anyway when you're driving around but only after 18MPH. If you want your MO to be AWD off the line, you have to flip the switch. 4) Check the CVT fluid. If you see it's stinky or darker colored changing the fluid would be a good idea. If it comes out clean and extremely light colored, I'd leave it alone. Remember that if you do decide to change your CVT fluid, make sure you replace it with CVT fluid. Other members in this forum made the mistake of putting regular ATF in their CVT...bit mistake! 5) I'd keep an eye on your CVT axle seals and inner/outer tie rods. The CVT axle seal can break and cause the CVT fluid to leak out. It's covered under the extended CVT warranty so don't worry. The tie rod ends don't have a jam nut on them. So if you go and get an alignment, they may or may not be able to adjust appropriately. I had an inner tie rod go but couldn't separate the inner from the outer. So I had to cut them off and replace with new parts that had a jam nut. Other little things to watch for are the right or left channel of speakers giving out while playing CD's only. There is a little ribbon cable that needs to be reinstalled inside the CD head unit if that happens. Enjoy your MO!

But wait .. i cant figure one thing out .. AWD LOCK... (Its because of my bad english) ... If i press AWD LOCK button then i will have 2 wheel drive ? And if i press that button i have bigger chances to break something ? I really cant figure that one out...Should i use that button or not ? And if i use it , can i do it during the drive , or i have to STOP ? Thank u WARHAMMER ! |

I'd say read your instruction manual. It's all in there.
Bottom line, do not press the AWD LOCK button at all during dry weather. Only use AWD LOCK when there is ice on the road or you're driving in very loose sand like on a beach. Pressing AWD LOCK on dry pavement might stress the system and break something.

Congratulations! And welcome to the family.
Regarding AWD button I just want to clarify that your Murano is FWD unless you push that button, or if the system decides that you need AWD. Since your Mourano can do it automatically, if I were you, I would never touch that button and let the system manage it for me. Regarding putting a carputer in, it is not that hard. The biggest part is to move the orange screen somewhere else and installing a 7 inch touchscreen monitor in its place. Let me know when you are ready and I will help you anyway I can.

Congrats Serbian Dude on your Murano
You even picked the best color (lol, I'm biased as I have the same exact one.....) I hope everything is good with that Mo and none of the prominent issues we discussed would appear on your Mo. Enjoy it !!!! I love mine too ! |

Congratulations!!! So you "jumped on it", good for you! I'm sure you are going to love it! I bought another AWD MO SV 2011 since we last communicated, so you can see that I'm not too worried about the CVT and the transfer case.
BUT unbeknownst to me I have kept my little fingers OFF the lock button, mostly because I couldn't get any sense out of the Users Manual. IMHO don't waste your time with the manual on this issue, just do as all here advocate, leave it alone UNLESS completely stuck in snow or sand. The car does fine figuring out when to go into AWD on its own. I kept my 04 MO with 84K miles so you can see I'm not too worried about the CVT issue The wife get the '11 MO.BTW I would change the CVT fluid just to get piece of mind, I know some are saying that Nissan don't require it. I did it when I had 57k miles on mine and plan to do another soon. DON't experiment with the fluids though!! Use Nissans very expensive fluid, but again you know that it works! Best of luck to you |

Serbi-baby, I have a 2004 Murano too. I bought it brand new!! I have over 100K miles on it now.
Trust me. It would be a good idea to change that CVT fluid. Spend the $50/Ltr. (It cost me $15-$20/Qt here) The "Service Schedule" calls for it to be changed every 30K miles. Use the Nissan NS2 fluid for it. Nothing else. The transfer case uses a different fluid. You should change that fluid too. I didn't know any better and I never changed my CVT fluid or my transfer case fluid. It almost nullified the coverage on my extended warranty. I was lucky, My CVT went 99,000 miles before I had an issue with my CVT. That got me connected with this forum. I just had my differential fluids changed too. Use 80W90 fluid for that. ($13-$15/Qt). I'm at 100,500 miles now. It's time to change the spark plugs, drive belts and the oil cooler gasket. I love my Murano. It's quick, corners great. it has a great Bose sound system and lots of room. Best of Luck...Keep on Truckin' ---Biggi---
