Default Remote starter question

I had a remote starter installed on my 2005 murano sl a couple days ago. It has the key fob. The starter is an Excalibur model al 1830 edpb two way remote.

It has been having a few problems. One, being that it will start and then turn off after 3 seconds. If attempted at night and shuts off, then the headlights will stay on and won't shut off unless I flip it to on and then off manually in the car. A couple times when I started it at night it worked. When I shut it off after it ran for a minute or so by remote, the headlights stayed on again. My wife hit the unlock button today and opened the trunk manually. When it opened, the alarm went off. I am obviously brining it back this week sometime. Do people have suggestions before I bring it back so they can fix it right this time. I was told not to use the fob anymore to u lock and lock doors, only the new remote. It still has these problems. Does the valet key have to stay in car? Please respond ASAP if you have suggestions as I may bring it back tomorrow. Thank you!!!

Jim

If you had the starter installed by someone, it's their problem to fix. Take it to them.

It has been having a few problems. One, being that it will start and then turn off after 3 seconds. (The bypass module is incorrectly programmed or incorrectly hooked to the BCM and it thinks that the key is not present and shuts off the ignition.)

If attempted at night and shuts off, then the headlights will stay on and won't shut off unless I flip it to on and then off manually in the car.
(The pin 33 or 38 ....not sure about this one....at the BCM needs a negative pulse when the remote start shuts off the engine to turn off the autolight feature. This will happen only when you shut the engine off using the remote starter.)

A couple times when I started it at night it worked. When I shut it off after it ran for a minute or so by remote, the headlights stayed on again. My wife hit the unlock button today and opened the trunk manually. When it opened, the alarm went off. (If a negative pulse is sent to pin 14 unlock or pin 13 lock, it will also disable the factory alarm while unlocking the doors with the remote starter. These pins are empty at the connector and a stripped wire must be inserted at the BCM connector for this to work)

I am obviously brining it back this week sometime. Do people have suggestions before I bring it back so they can fix it right this time. I was told not to use the fob anymore to u lock and lock doors, only the new remote. It still has these problems. Does the valet key have to stay in car?
(Depends what kind of bypass module you have installed. Some needs an extra key and some dont. Newer bypass module can be hooked up to the pin 22 (can high) and pin 21 (can low) and once programmed, you wont loose or need an extra key.)
Please respond ASAP if you have suggestions as I may bring it back tomorrow. Thank you!!!

Jim

Tell your installer to have a look here : evo-can

It will certainly help. Good luck

From what I understand, you telling me that the MO has the intellikey ?
Yes its still possible if the connections to the key cylinder is made accordingly. It is outlined in the link I've sent you.

Again, a good bypass module that can take care of intellikey feature must be used.

OP, either the installer did not install a bypass module, used a bypass module that is not co-existing properly or the bypass unit used is the correct one but problematic. Fix will be easy unless the installer is lets say clueless.

As for remote start and the Murano. Can work off the Nissan key fob or by a secondary key fob provided by the remote start manufacturer. Depends on the kit itself whether you can use your Nissan remote or secondary remote start remote. Both are easy installs if the installer is knowledgeable and both require the proper bypass module.

Some opt to go with the secondary remote approach as the distance that the remote can be from the vehicle and still work is somewhat greater then with going with the Nissan fob alternative.

How do you use the murano remote for the remotes starter?
My (new for me, but second hand) murano has a sticker inside the bonnet saying remote starter is equipped

IF the remote start kit installed on your Murano works with the Nissan remote (unless your kit has a separate necessary remote) you would press the Nissan remote "lock" button 3 consecutive times and within about 6 seconds you will hear the Murano clicking, etc. and it will start.

AND...

This hint you will find useful regardless of the remote start kit you go with:

Start the Murano/Juke/other Nissan via remote start. When you get out to the car, use your Nissan remote to open the door or the button on the handle to open the door(s) and get into the car. Do NOT step on the brake. Now, press the vehicles START button (or turn key) once, wait a second or two and then press the START button again, (or turn key) wait a second or two and now step on the brake pedal. The car will not be turned off but remain running and ready to drive.
