Default New guy here.. Questions

Hello all,

We have acquired a new to us 2005 Nissan Murano we took it in the dealer for a over all inspection, after we left the check engine light came on shortly after they closed ( coincidence) took it to Advance automotive and it pulled a code

"U1000" Dealer code... does anybody know what this is? our pc port where you connect the computer is missing the outside cover panel and the port is just dangling inside of the port... looks to be missing the two screws as well... thats my second question, does anybody have the the inside fuse panel cover for a latte interior MO and the two screws to screw the port back into its original location?

Screws are easy. Anything that fits works.

Cover? Check wrecking yards or just order one from the dealer.

Code? Run an internet search - a quick Google search for "Nissan Murano trouble codes" led me directly to this post on this forum: 2006 Murano OBD II Codes

Welcome to the forum.

The U1000 (and U1001) error code is for the CAN (Controller Area Network) communication error. The cause can be anything from a bad harness to a loose connector.

I had the 1000 and 1210 errors about a year after I bought my MO. The dealer initially had trouble finding the root cause, but then applied Service Bulletin (TSB) 06-001A and the problem never recurred. The TSB called for tightening both a grounding nut and bolt under the dash.

Thanks Joe, got it into the dealer for them to take a look. They did find that my struts are going bad, is that something I can replace or do you guys recommend getting them done at a shop so they can compress the springs with there machine?

I'd pull the struts with springs in place, take them to a shop and pay the shop for transferring the springs to the new struts, then re-install them myself. That way you save a buck and get to keep your upper lip.

NOTE: I haven't done this yet, but most struts can be pulled with the spring still mounted. Others have done this and will surely comment.

Ok guys, something 2 other things to ask about I notice the drivers side side view mirror glass is "shaking" like its loose or something, the mirror assembly to the body is tight, just the glass seems to shake quite a bit when I drive... how is the glass itself held it? Do i just need to reglue?

and 2, how hard is it to change the rear differential fluid? and what type of fluid is needed?

Thanks again for all the help

Hi Brad,
I can speak to the rear differential.
It's easy to change given you can break the FILL plug. Loosen the fill plug first.
It does no good to drain it if you can't fill it!

Search "bikerjohn" on here. He has a nice step-by-step on this service.
The fluid is 80W-90 gear oil and uses 1-1/8th pint.

Here's how to do the Rear Differential Servicing... Transfer Case and Rear Differential Fluid
Nissan Canada recommend to use Pennzoil Gearplus GL-5 SAE 80W-90 fluid only( not any other kind ) when having the transfer case and rear differential services.
