Hello! I'm wondering if there is any way to reduce the stiffness in the Mo power steering? It would be nice if there was a way to get more power assist on it. Likely a dumb question but hey.......
![]() Thanks for any info. Cheers/Beers/Bill |

I assume your power steering is functioning as designed, correct? If that is the case then the answer is no, the power steering system's boost is variable, but not adjustable.

Njjoe is correct. The valves in the hydraulic system have only one setting.
I recently had my Murano in the body shop for a few weeks and drive Dodge Journey rental in the meantime - not a bad car, but not as much fun as the Murano. When I stepped back into the Murano I was surprised to find that the steering effort was perceptibly greater. OTOH, I have better road feel with the Murano's steering...and after a day or so, I didn't notice it any more. Drive it for a couple of days and you'll find that it's a feature, not a bug. If it really bothers you, find a 60's pickup with no power steering and drive it for a couple of days. When you step back into the Murano and turn the wheel you'll think you have died and gone to heaven!

Thanks nnjoe and Pilgrim, appreciate the info. nnjoe you say 'I assume it is functioning as designed'........I guess, if as you say it is not adjustable, then maybe it is functioning as designed,
but still seems quite stiff BUT I can live with it. Pilgrim, I think you hit the nail on the head. We had a small Toyota Corolla while getting some body work done on the 2007 SE and it was a treat to handle. Getting back into the Mo I was likely spoiled by the Toy!I also agree with your 'better road feeling' of the Mo and I will get used to it again. Gotta go now and find that beater 60's pickup......... Don't know the year of your MO but the 03s and 04s has power steering issues---harder/heavier steering on slow/parking speed. Its seems to be due to an undersized PS pump which they changed on the 05 or 06--can't remember. You can feel it when trying to parallel park or turning the wheel from full left to full right fast while moving slow-5mph or so. We have discussed this issue way back...

nitely, thanks for your input, appreciate that. My Mo is a 2007 SE AWD.
Your 'harder/heavier steering on slow/parking speed' suits the issue I'm referring to--at highway speeds it's just fine. Cheers. |
