I'm getting a second opinion from a more reliable source tomorrow but today, I dropped off my new-to-me 2006 SL because it seemed to be running a bit loud, and the breaks squeal when I hit them lightly but not when I hit them hard.
They came back with a list! 1. front/center & right hand engine mounts are "busted" 2. R front right wheel bearing is bad 3. the lower control arm grommets are "busted" 4. the front break shim kits are missing 5. the brake fluid is dark Granted I bought this car a month ago from a (non-nissan) dealership who said their service department inspected the car and only found the power steering issue (which they fixed). I just can't believe that all of these things would go bad in a month. I guess my question is, if anyone has experienced any of these issues that quickly after an "inspection" and what you'd recommend I get taken care of first (if my 2nd opinion comes up with the same issues) Thanks for your help! |

Most of that is user-fixable if you have mechanic skills.
And dark brake fluid doesn't mean ANYthing. Brake fluid should be bled and replaced every 3-4 years, but color is not an indicator of problems. I think they're being normally energetic in suggesting work to be done. When my dealer does this, I say thanks and do the work myself.

So called multi-point inspection prior to a used car sale does not mean a thing--unless you are doing the inspection yourself. All those issues are common enough specially the first 3. Some after market brake pads don't require shims on installation. If you're not experiencing noise or problems with it I would not worry about it. You can always bleed your brake fluid...try using the motive bleeder if you are a diyer.

I have a 06 sl and I have had to replace both lower control arms, motor for the front wipers, steering fluid is leaking, and I believe the radiator is also. I have had no luck with the car and I bought it new from the dealer. Better hope you can fix yourself or know a reasonable mechanic cause it adds up quickly! I have put thousands into a five year old car!

Thanks everyone! I got a second opinion and they didn't even mention the break fluid or the shims. Got the bearing/hub replaced.. gonna have to do the rest as I get the money.. I wish I had mechanic skills!
