Default 2006 Murano - in dash display not changing background when headlights on

Hey all -

So here are some funky things about the in-dash display on the 2006 SL

1) Different Menu sets with car on Accessories vs. Running

When attempting to understand why my auto-mirror and seat memory was no longer working (moving back when turned off and readjusting when turned on), I found that with the car in Accessory mode to light the display, different menus are unavailable until the key is turned to the ON or actually running. Only then do you get the full menu options.

So I reset some of the options (not default settings) because they mysteriously changed (no, I did not replace my battery or disconnect the terminals).

2) Now all of a sudden, my display no longer changes when my headlights are turned ON. During normal daylight, the screen is full color with bright background -- Daylight Mode. Normally, when the headlights come on, the screen changes to dark background with Orange contrast only (and reduced brightness).

I know I can change the brightness using the joystick and SETTINGS or simply pushing the DAY/NIGHT button and adjusting that way - or simply switch between DAY/NIGHT with that button... but why would my display no longer switch automatically when the lights come on? Since I have owned it it has always worked that way.

As usual, all advice and tricks are appreciated.

OK... did my own investigation and it's part of bad code and lack of patience. Scrambled Brains meets confused light sensor.

The answer goes like this - Set display background to expected condition (ex. BRIGHT when the sensor sees bright daylight). With headlights set to auto AND sensor sensitivity correctly set, just be patient and wait for an automatic cycle of the sensor AFTER you have shut the car off.

So, in short, I set the expected and current condition - BRIGHT display. Drove home in bright daylight. Turned the car off in the garage for the night. Drove to work in the morning and after backing out of my garage, the sensor sensed it was dark and the lights were on and the screen was on dark background automatically. At lunch, in bright daylight, the screen came on in BRIGHT daylight mode and headlights were off. All worked just fine.

I've discovered that some of the settings are not available when the car is in motion. I think it's their way of trying to discourage you from driving into a bridge abutment at 70 MPH while trying to change the display.
