Default 2006 Color Display - Is there a firmware upgrade?

OK - Stupid question number 1 zillion...

How many of you, with a color display, think it's absolutly ridiculous that a full display that is 7" in diagonal has audio firmware written that does not allow radio, disc, or ipod data to be written using the available real estate of the screen?

We are left with RDS info crammed into this eight character, two line space, disc data that is sometimes available (I can't determine the rhyme or reason behind what works and what doesn't), and iPod data that is truncated to the point of being, for the most part, pretty unuseable. Yet, there is all this blank space with a lovely shade of blue available. The back up camera seems to be able to use this CRT space.

I don't know how the SAT information is displayed but after six years of ownership, I am annoyed enough to rant.

Someone please tell me that a firmware update fixed this long ago and my dealer has been too lazy to inform me.

It's about as bad. I recall reading somewhere here that someone had added an input switch to their display and used it to support a Car PC, switching it back and forth with the factory input when they needed to control HVAC, etc. Sounded interesting but too kludgy to be practical.
