Default Passenger Side Axle Seal

I just replaced the passenger side axle due to a torn boot. My question is about the seal. There's that gold (cad plated) cup on the axle, which way should it face? I put it flat side out, cuped side toward the seal. Well of COURSE the seals leaking now. I guess I'll change it next. Any other tidbits of info would be cool too! Thanks

I looked at my 04 service manual and it was not clear at all. You may want to stop at the dealer and ask to see the picture in their parts book to figure out how it should be oriented.

Thanks for looking!, I looked all over the net and used a best guess. Its called a dust boot, so I assumed it was meant to cover the seal.
