Default Airbag question

I have an 05 Murano. In diagnostic mode, the SRS is flashing 1 long and 6 short. Does anyone know what this means?

Just prior to the to the issue, did you have the vehicle's battery disconnected for more then a few minutes? Perhaps you took the battery out, replaced it an hour or so later..

Yup, figured as much...

Try this and if it does not work you will have to go to the Nissan dealer Service Dept. to have the airbag reset. Procedure is a tad tricky so you may have to try it a few times to you get it right.. Let us know how you make out....

1. Turn the key from off to on.

2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few secs. and then as soon as it blinks off (the start of the flashing), turn the key off instantly.

3. Count to 5 (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi . . . .)

4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times until you have done the cycle three times.

5. Now turn the key on and watch the light. It will start blinking in a different, slower manner. This is diagnostic mode. You can watch this for a little while, no hurry.

6. Now turn the key off again, Count to 5 like in step 3 again, and turn back on. If the procedure worked, the airbag light will not be flashing.

I tried the procedure (many times), but the end result was that the airbag light now flashes all of the time. Was there anything further that you can suggest about the 1 long and 6 short flashes while in diagnostic mode?

It seems you will have to go to a Nissan dealer for an airbag reset. Some owners have success with the reset procedure but others do not. Hopefully it is as simple as a reset. You mentioned the battery disconnected for a time and the end result of same can be an airbag issue. Curious, have you worked on a seat issue recently? Seats have air bags and if cable connector is not attached properly, etc. this can also cause airbag warning issue.

Thanks for your suggestions, but I have a buddy who has an airbag OBD2 computer and he was unable to reset the light. I was wondering if anyone knew what the resistance should be on an impact sensor, which is working properly. Should the resistance remain constant, or can it fluctuate as long as it does not plummet to 000? We checked the impact sensor and it fluctuates and it remained on the high side of resistance. I wonder if the Module needs to see a constant resistance value or it has to be in a certain range before it allows the light to be turned off?

Roxy-

I took a look at the Service Manual and it suggests the "one long, four+ short" error code means "The system is malfunctioning and needs to be repaired..."

As much as I hate to recommend it, but I think you need to bring your MO to a Nissan dealer and have them run a Consult-II diagnostic scan in the airbag system.

If it was just about any other system I not make this suggestion, but the airbags are not to be fooled with.
