Default Electrical Gremlin: help needed.

Hello viewers! I have a 2004 Murano with nearly 200k km. Love this car! Fave ever. My problem is electrical. I noticed that none of the lights on the gauge pod were working. I thought it was just the dimmer but when I tried to adjust-no change. Green interior flasher light for turn signals do not light either even though the turn signals are working.
I checked the fuses and found the one titled "meter" to be blown. It is a 10A. I replaced it only to have it blow immediately with a visible flash. I suppose this means there is a short somewhere in this circuit? Will I be at the mercy of the Dealer for this? I bet electrical problems such as this could take a lot of time ($)? Any suggestions? Thank you.

Yes, there's a short somewhere in that circuit. Don't succumb to the temptation of putting a heavier fuse in it...that can result in melted wires.

Question: have you done ANYTHING to the electrical system such as installing an accessory, plugging in unusual devices to the 12V power ports, or have you seen other unusual behavior (interior lights working or not working)?

If so, look there first. It's the best way to trouble-shoot yourself.

If nothing like that comes to mind, I think most of us are not really prepared to trouble-shoot electrical circuits in this kind of situation. I agree it will probably be rather expensive, but I'd suggest that the dealer is better than an independent shop for this particular problem.

Thanks Pilgrim, I haven't noticed anything unusual so I guess I'll give the vehicle and wallet over to dealer. Thanks for your reply.
