Cheap fix for broken key fob
Back in Feb of last year I cracked the case of my key FOB being too agressive in opening it to replace the battery. I did not like the cost and hassle of replacing it, so I used my wife's FOB and mine sat on the shelf.
At the end of November, I had the oil changed in my Altama and notice a rubber cover the Nissan dealer was selling to go over key FOBs. I guess it is to protect them. The light bulb went off and I bought one.
In the past, I had tried tapeing my key FOB together, but that fix would not last, the tape would slip because of the tappered shape of the key FOB. However, when I warpped a piece of electrical tape around the battery end of the key FOB, then slipped on the rubber cover, it held tight.
It has been over a month since I came up with this cheap fix and the key FOB works fine. If you have a key FOB which will not stay together because you dropped it or cracked the case changing the battery, give this a try. The rubber cover was 7.50.
