Default Loud POP! after checking front caliper...

04 AWD, 200K, developed a bad whine and slight grind when doing 15+ mph.

Decided to check front bearings. Got it down to the calipers and decided its tight and put it back together. When lowering the vehicle back to the ground we got a HUGE POP under the car - sounded like it came from the passenger side under the engine. Checked all around - couldn't find anything unusual and no leaks. Started it and everything runs - no lights or warnings.

We're stumped as heck on the POP. Thoughts?

Maybe motor mounts? Lower control arm bushings? Ball joints? You sure you got all the caliper pins in properly? All the bolts, the lug nuts?

What type of jack were you using and where was the lifting point?

8 years/ 200k miles is not bad. I'd take it. I just hope my 04 reaches 200k before such failure occurs.

That does not make any sense. Why would "a HUGE POP under the car" while standing still with engine off have anything to do with the transmission? You may have tranny noise but I doubt that would have anything to do with the pop sound you heard.

^^ Seconded. Something else is going on.

But the reason you call it moot is probably that you're selling the car immediately so you're not worried about the pop.
