Default Morbid Curiosity - Tranny Swap

04 AWD. Local yard has a cheap used tranny.
How hard for shade-tree like myself?
How many hours involved?
Or is this totally out of the realm?

Turbizzy is best qualified to answer such a question, but in his absence I offer the following - according to the 2005 Service Manual the engine and CVT must be removed as a single unit, and then separated once outside the car.

Now having said that, before considering such a major undertaking I would go for a second opinion.

CORRECTION: As per the following post by ekaxel it is not necessary to pull the engine in order to replace the CVT.

"according to the 2005 Service Manual the engine and CVT must be removed as a single unit, and then separated once outside the car"

As I have said a number of times, I WILL NOT actively participate in this forum, BUT as we speak, my car is at the dealer with the transmission and transfer case on the floor! It developed a very small leak at the transaxle/engine joint. They said it could be either one of the CVT seals or a engine rear main seal. So I was dealing with a zero cost or a $2K hit. They pulled it (just the transaxle, engine still in the car) and all the seals were dry, so they assumed that the leak was transaxle internal somewhere, and they are giving me a new one, no charge. They gave me a new Rogue to use while the repair is being done. So I get a rebuilt transaxle, all the seals, no cost. I am having them replace all the belts, and do the air intake recall.

Thanx, ekaxel, for clearing that up. I corrected my post.

As usual, your contributions to this forum are invaluable.

I am glad it was your CVT and not the engine seal. Getting a new (rebuilt) CVT for $0 is a nice deal.

Thanks Joe. A couple of things I forgot to mention Mileage 84000. 2003. 2 big accidents 2007 & 2010.
When they saw my 8 1/2 year old mangled transmission scoop. they said to throw it away and NOT replace it..
