Got an SES, ~ 62,000 miles and I have my fingers crossed

I went to Autozone and checked out the codes: P0840 - Transmission fluid pressure sensor "A" circuit P0845 - Transmission fluid pressure sensor "B" circuit P0744 - TCC solenoid valve fault I think I know what's wrong, but I would like to see what everyone else thinks so I can confirm my thoughts. Thank you.

I beleive the pressure sensor in question is internal to the CVT. That would make it an internal component that is not repairable at the dealership. That also makes it covered by the CVT's extended warranty.

Since your 2005 MO only has 62,000 miles it will be covered by the CVT's extended warranty.

Thanks njjoe. That is certainly comforting to hear. I'm probably going to take it to the Nissan dealership tomorrow to have it checked out. Just out of curiosity, what could be the problem? I thought a simple CVT fluid change would have fixed it.

0744- Torque converter clutch malfunction
0840- Secondary pressure sensor
0845- Primary pressure sensor

When you look at all three codes it appears to be a problem with inadequate oil pressure, which may be caused by a control valve or sensor failure. I would think changing the fluid would have no impact on the problem.

I would make sure the CVT has enough oil in it before taking the car to the dealer, just in case, you know, they reject warranty coverage because oil level was not maintained.

I checked the oil level a month or two ago and it was fine.

I'm currently at the dealership and I mentioned the CVT warranty and the service guy seemed apprehensive about it. Anything else I should be aware of? I am currently in Bay Ridge Nissan.

Here is the link to Nissan's CVT warranty page: NissanAssist.com It explains everything you need to know about the warranty.

If the dealer remains apprehensive I suggest you call Nissan Consumer Affairs @ 800-647-7261. They have help me and many other members resolve dealer issues.

Good luck.

The service guy mentioned that Nissan had a manufacturer-specific OBD scanner and that more codes may come up aside from the ones that I mentioned. Could there be more codes that may show up?

More codes? Yeah, I guess that is possible, but I am not sure what it would prove since the current three codes are all related to the CVT.

Now if the dealer tells you there is a fourth code that only their reader can detect and it cites driver abuse as the cause of the other three, then I would be just a tad suspicious.

So they got back to me and suggested that I do a transmission and coolant flush (they said that I have the wrong coolant > affects cooling > affects CVT) in order to identify whether or not the CVT has problems. I hastily agreed but in the back of my mind, if there are still problems, I hope that all of this is covered under the warranty. And I probably will call Nissan Assist this coming Monday to see if this stops the dealer from jerking around.

Wrong coolant? Was your engine temperature gauge reading higher than normal? If not, then I suspect your dealer is jerking your chain.

Changing the fluids, especially the CVT fluid, is very costly when done by dealer. I hope they are picking up the tab if it turns out the CVT is replaced.

I just had another discussion with someone who had a CVT problem with their Sentra and brought it to the same dealership. It seems like he had the same encounter with the same dealership. I have already signed up for the 'repair', but it doesn't seem like they have actually done it nor will they do it for the next couple of days. Do you think Nissan Assist will help me? At the end of the day, the CVT is still out of comission and the repairs will still done to remedy the CVT concern.

I most definitely would contact Nissan Consumer Affairs first thing Monday morning.

If you saw no unusual readings on the temperature gauge then it is obvious there was no "wrong coolant" issue as claimed by your dealership.

Contact Nissan Consumer Affairs and explain your situation. Give them the three SES codes, let them know what your dealer is planning to do, and ask that they oversee the situation.

I worked with them in the past and they were very helpful in resolving a warranty issue I had with my dealer.

Good luck.
