When you do normally fill up your MO at what point when the gas tank is low?

I want to get a general concenses when I should really be filling up, normally I do it around 1/2 way.

90% of my driving is in town with gas stations never more than a mile away so I try not to let it get below 1/8th of a tank and that goes for any vehicle. I'll top off regardless of fuel level if a bad storm is in the forecast.

I usually go just under a 1/4 tank, so probably 1/8.

I average putting in about 15-16 gallons. It's supposed to be 20-21 tank...?

I have gone as far as my Miles Til Empty display goes blank and then some. I think in the worst case with the little Gas Pump light lit, I filled to the "rim" (no, I can't see the gas in the pipe but I can hear that it's getting there) at around 19 gallons. Often it's around 17-18. That leaves what, two or three gallons in reserve? 20.5 or 21.5 gallon tank. Can't remember.

One time I had the MTE go blank and then 5 miles to a station.

I got 17.99 gallons in, 432 Miles, 24.0 MPG.

It's nice to know we still have at least 2 gallons when the MTE goes to zero.

Its a 21.7 gallon tank. Ive filled up as much as 20.6 once when the MTE was at --- and I still drove a bit before getting to a gas station. Thought I would be stranded for sure but it still ran strong. With the cold weather in Chicago, I dont go lower than a 1/4 tank till I fill it up to full again. I did notice that my miles to empty as well as average mpg has significantly dropped since the drop in temps.

That sounds about right because I think its another 3.5 gallons to empty just as the initial light turns on.

I usually get down to 20 miles or less indicated before refilling.

A few times I've had the "miles left" display showing all asterisks. There's still a couple of gallons left at that time.

I go all the way down to when the fuel light turns on. When I fill up, I usually fill up about 19 gallons +/- 0.5 gallons or so.

Have had no issues to this point. 125K miles on my MO.

What year is your MO?

I know technology has changed a whole bunch in the recent years and I myself have went really low on gas before but going very low too often cant be healthy on the fuel pump.

My MO is an 04.

It all depends on my driving at the time. If I am driving several hundred miles on the interstate and know the gas stations are every xx miles then I will run the tank to maybe an 1/8 before refueling.

On the other hand, if I am driving around town in the winter I will top off the tank when it gets close to 1/4. If I know I am heading on a road trip I will top-off the tank if it is below 1/2.

I fill between 1/2 and 1/4. You never know when an emergency will come up and you need gas.
