I searched but did not find a thread on this, so pardon me if I am redundant here.
I have noticed corrosion at the positive battery terminal and have cleaned it off many times. Turns out it may be a sign that the battery is dying. In any event, Went to the ATM, turned the car off to save gas, and the Murano would not restart with the system appearing dead. Through an Act of God, the guy behind me in the ATM line had a battery terminal cleaner tool and we were able to restart it.
When I got home I discovered that the lug to the power cable (to the starter?), hidden behind the fusible link block, and the cutesy plastic cover, was so corroded it broke off in my hand. The cable goes into the harness, so I am figuring several Bens at the dealer to fix this. "I Think Not" as the French philosopher said.
To shorten the story, I got a ground lug terminal from Home Depot to attach to the crimp barrel on the power cable. I did not want to try soldering here, so this is a bolt on repair for less than $5.00 Pictures should appear Oh, and yes, I love battery terminal protectant sealer in red. The connection to the battery positive lug itself is a standard replacement part from an autoparts store. the old one comes off with a good shot of Kroil penetrant.
Just hoping this simple repair helps someone avoid an expensive visit to the dealer due to a over-design of the battery positive fuse block fusible link assembly connection to the starter.
