Hi, I have a Nissan Murano 2007 (100.000 Km) New Engine.
I normally change oil at the Nissan workshop, instead, this time I went to a gas station (which has an oil shop). I changed the air and oil filters (Oil brand: Agrannel 20W/50). Car started fine but after 20 km, engine started to unwind and lose potency. Engine now doesn’t start properly or it starts and then turns off after few seconds.
Does anyone now what the problem might be? could it it be the a different oil?
What engine is in your Nissan? It should be running on 5w30 if it's the 3.5L version. If it's not the oil being the issue, then it could be an issue with the engine, sensors or something else related. Hard to tell at this point.
I think officially there is no 2008 model, they skipped over to separate 1st and 2nd gen models.
I posted hard start issue and have since learned about the position sensors. That sounds like it could be your issue.
I did read about engines going dead while at idle. I confirmed mine via a code reader. Is a good first step anyway.
I doubt the oil has anything to do with the problem, my opinion. Search for camshaft and crankshaft position sensors. They are a wear part so not a surprise to inspect and replace.
Some you tube vids showing the procedures on your model. Nothing so far on the second gen model.
Have the codes read. If it's not starting, there will be codes present and you need to know what they are. That's step 1. Most Auto Zone places will read them, and you can Google the codes.
I agree that the oil would most likely not cause this. Even though the oil should definitely be 5W30 and not what you used. A single oil change wouldn't necessarily do damage right away, but it wouldn't help the engine internally in the long wrong either.
One last question I have is: Would there be a way to check if if the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors are the ones causing the problem without the help of a code reader?
I don't have one and visiting the Nissan shop would cost me lots of money... Just trying my luck here. If there's no way to check this I will definitely take it to the shop.
Oil has nothing to do with it with the car running. Sounds like the Camshaft position sensor got knocked off. There are 2 of them so look for them both on driver side, first right next to Temp Sensor. Also look at crankshaft sensor make sure its connected. Also look at all your fuses, make sure fuel pump etc didn't blow.
I looked for crankshaft and Camshaft sensor and both are connected (still, I need to find a code reader). I can't find which fuse is the one for the fuel pump. I took a photo with the fuse's box lid, which I have attached here. The only fuel related fuse is the: fuel lid. Is it called different in my box perhaps?
If you also had the air filter changed, I'd check all of the intake system connections. Those are prone to coming apart, and actually were a recall on the first gen Muranos.
So finally, I took my Murano to the carshop.
After a super quick check the guy told me that the air filter box was open...we just recall changing the air filter that day...yes Nafddur, you were right but I just saw your message. It turned out that if the air filter box its a bit open, there is a sensor there that sends a signal to the main computer and doesn't let the engine to vent. So it was just a matter of closing this box.
YW, Juan. I'm surprised others here didn't pick up on that right away too. Your driveability problems were identical to those experienced by Murano owners who had the intake connections separate - usually right after the air cleaner was changed.
