Picking up my 2009 SL this afternoon and need some iPod help as a newb. Didn't want to spend the $$ for the LE model just to get full iPod integration and want to know if anyone out there knows a workaround or whatever to make the pod work with the factory stereo. I do have the technology package etc. and high-end factory stereo. THanks.
yo jayhawk, se if my idea will work, ask your nissan guy or corporate guy, who ever is willing to research , open look, and see if the 2009 nissan quest ipod interface is compatible with the sl murano bose changer etc. i think it will work, looks like it would
So....are we still looking for someone to tear into their SL in order to come to a conclusion on this matter? If so I can try to do it sometime this weekend....not making any promises but I really want this mod to happen.
Jayhawk - I have been reading all of you posts on this through two different forums, so if htere are certain things that I need to try or you would like me to look for please send me a PM and let me know. I am new to MO's but not taking cars apart.

undrlord, that about sums it up. The ~$400 option on the Nissan GT-R also seems as though it would be compatible with SL radios but Nissan still will not offer it for the Murano.
the other part that sucks is that in the manual it says there should be an AUX jack on the actual radio itself.....but what model does that come on? it is crazy to think that they would just leave an option out like that and NOT put the iPod connector in. I guess the RCA jacks is an option but I hate the idea of having some wires exposed like that. So much for a "clean" install.
Are you referring to the 3.5" stereo AUX jack? I think it comes on the lower end models or at least the lower end model radios. Typically the S trim level. It's debatable whether this is really an upgrade or not but most SL trim level or above will include the upgrades for the video input and have the RCA AUX jacks at the back of the console instead.
I agree that it's really an oversight on Nissan's part to not offer the iPod integration for the SL as an option. Having a fully loaded SL, it's really the only thing I wanted from the LE trim level but it wasn't worth the additional cost to get the higher trim level just for that one feature. I also really prefer the aluminum look of the SL to the faux wood look of the LE. I've taken to just sync'ing a CF card to have my "integrated" experience and my iPod isn't used in the MO anymore.

What size CF card did you go with? Does the card come with some sort of USB adapter so you can transfer music to the card or do you have to buy that separate?

I went with the max the MO can handle, so a 2GB card. That gives you about 512 mp3s/wma files which is also another limit of the system...I think. The MO will read a larger card but it will only see 2 GB of data, the rest is ignored. I forget some of the other limitations right now but those are the big ones. There's a discussion on the limits that was posted to this board a few months back if you want to dig deeper.
I had to purchase a USB adapter separately but they can found at most any electronics store if you don't want to buy it online. Best Buy, Fry's, Microcenter, CompUSA, maybe even Wal-mart, Target. I decided to buy for the future and went with a multi-card reader but a basic CF reader can be had for as little as $10-$15.
I don't think anyone has made it to the point where software compatibility even comes into play. The latest I've seen where someone opened the console they found that the physical connectors needed to hook the interface up weren't installed on MO's without the iPod connector. If it was simply a matter of attaching the connectors I think someone could do it but it's going to be a bit more involved than that. Most likely requiring splicing wires and/or installing a new connector/harness to fit the iPod interface.
maybe not. if other aftermarket nissan interfaces just require the harness and interface components, wire spicing never was an option. previous moranos were interfaced using the armada interface connecting behind the head unit like now or to the sat harness. new nissans now have the sat reciever built into the radio. so the quest interface is now the first of the 09 vehicles to have a interface accessorie. we are getting caught up on doing it like the LE model. we have sl . big difference. it would install different. when I had a guy look at mine at an ipod car audio. he explained about the software being different as well as the harness attachments. so that's why I figure the quest would be copatible, just like the armada was in the past. I got a guy bout to email me back from 212motoring who may have a hardwire kit for me to do it. ill post after
You can have the Ipod user interface that you are used to on a dedicated display screen and control knob. There is also their 2nd generation version, but it is quite a bit more money!
hi. i found this site where they sell nissan ipod adapters.
After sending him a couple of emails, he told me that it is possible to have an ipod interface for the 2009 nissan murano sl model without nav package.

Just back checking in. So what does this all mean? Does this allow you to control the Ipod from the Monitor in the dash? I found the following Q's and A's posted at that link you provided, but still not sure what this kit will do:
-------------------------------------------
Frequently Asked Questions:
What is an Ipod Adapter? The Ipod Adapter is a Genuine Nissan Accessory for all Nissan/Infiniti Vehicles. It allows the ipod to hooked up to the Factory Head Unit VIA the Satellite Radio harness.
Will it Replace my Satellite Radio? No if you have satellite Radio Installed on your Vehicle this will work WITH your Satellite Radio. Anytime you undock the Ipod your Radio will revert back to sat radio
Is this an FM Modulator? Absolutely NOT! This is hardwired to your Radio, and the sound is at or above CD Quality.
Does this unit charge my iPod?
Yes but we have just been informed that APPLE has changed all the 4th Generation Nano's and they will not charge with this kit. This was done by APPLE Corporation, and is not because of the Ipod adapter kit. We are hoping that Apple will rethink this decision, but we cannot do anything about this situation. All 3rd Generation and below will still Charge like Normal
Here is a link to Apple's Decision: Apple iPod Charging Issues
Is this something I can Install Myself? Yes, but we highly reccomend having a stereo shop do the install, unless you are comfortable running wires and harnesses under your carpet.
How come my Dealership can't find this part? Unfortunately the only answer here is Laziness, while Nissan/Infiniti did not announce that this unit will work with all vehicles, we have extensively tested this unit in ALL Nissan Models, and most Infiniti Models (Thanks to our Informative Customers) and as long as the vehicle is Sat Capable, the unit will work perfectly.
My Vehicle is wired for Satellite, but I do not have Sat Installed. Which kit do I need? Almost all Nissan/Infiniti Vehicle came SAT Ready (Excludes 2000-2003 Models) so if you do not have SAT Installed (receieving a SAT Signal) then you would need the Without Sat Kit.
What is the Difference between the With Sat and Without Sat Kits? The With Sat kits come with an Additional Harness, that is the only difference.
One way to answer it slightly...with out buying the thing could be to troubleshoot somewhat...
The AUX just switches through what inputs its receiving that is not AM/FM - Disc - so...
If you unplug your sat(XM) receiver and press AUX it should no longer find the sat(XM) and just cycle through- kinda of like the replacement Dual headunit I had on my outlander- it had a USB and it could not cycle through to USB unless you have it plugged in.
This is mostlikely the same here- once the IPod in plugged in- and an IPod plugged into the connector if you press AUX it should cycle to it- the software is most likely there, just never used- same for the SD Card slot most likely.
I will have to check out their return policy to see if its worth getting it just to check.
Wonder if we can find a SD card slot adapter...as to me that would be more usefull than an IPod one.
Ok, here is the test from email to the user above:
It is not like the LE Model unit at all, that is a Hard Drive Based Unit, and we do not have the ability to add that unit to any car yet.
This unit will allow you to drill down into the various artists and playlists on your ipod from the head unit , you will be able to control the VOLUME from the steering wheel controls, you will not be able to advance any songs from there, that will be done from the Head unit, it will also display the info from the ipod on the information screen of the Murano.
Please note that this kit will NOT work with any Vehicle that is NAV TRAFFIC Ready, the Nav Traffic design means the SAT radio is built into the actual head unit, so there would be no aux port into the Radio. This is not the case with all the Radios on the Muranos, It will work with vehicles with Naviagtion, as long as they are NOT NavTRaffic Capable.
For me the, the deal breaker is the lack of steering wheel controls. That's why I want to get to the Ipod interface like the LE.
Brian -- is the LE interface dependent on the hard drive module? That doesn't make sense to me since there is an LE option without NAV/HDD that includes the ipod interface.

Will there be one that's gonna be out in the market where we will actually be able to use the steering wheel controls to control the ipod and not only the volume?
Not that I am aware of, this was a hardware change on the Part of Nissan, and with the advent of the New Hard Drive Style ipod adapter, they will not be R&D'ing further into this adapter.
There is a New Kit available for the GT-R that is supposed to be like the Murano HD one, but I do not want to risk the $550.00 price tag to try it out.
