Ok, I finally busted into the console and confirmed what jayhawk said...
The harness (M148 for those of you with the service manual) is missing as are the pins to the A/V control until. (This still seems silly to me, but I've worked in the PC MFG industry and know all the cost cutting that goes on in volume manufacturing so I shouldn't be surprised.) However, now that I have the ipod control module and GTR harness in hand I think I know what needs to be done. It should be an easy harness build -- I'm hoping jerseyparts will jump in here with some harness experience. I'll work out which connectors we need and try to figure out the pinout from the GTR part up to the head unit. I suspect it'll take 2 sets of connectors at the HU similar to what the usa-spec adapter needs. However, it won't plug into the SAT input like that one does. (hence -- can't use the USA spec harness to frankenstein something for this) More info to follow. Brian, please jump in if you think you can help with the harness. |

Then they sent it right out. However, like I said it doesn't work any better. In fact this one is nearly completely unusable. I can't change playback mode at all. It stays in "all songs" the whole time. cant even get to direct mode. I'll be sending it back for a refund. |

I just picked up my new 2009 Murano SL. I was actually looking for the LE because I wanted to FINALLY have a good iPod experience for the car. My dealer had a very hard time finding an LE with the color and options (not that you need many on an LE). I settled for an SL. It took them 4 weeks to find my loaded SL. I thought the CF card would make up for the lack of iPod interface. I was wrong.
Not only does the CF card have a file limit, but it also does not allow shuffle or any other playback method asside from the order in which the files were copies. Ugh! I love my Murano. The 2009 handles much nicer than my older 2006 did. The new NAV and controls are also vast improvements over 2006. It really bothers me that Nissan is being dragged, kicking and screaming, into the digital media arena. ****. All they needed to do was create a USB port that would play back a Mp3 and read imbedded tags and albumn art; allow shuffle and playlists. Next, a simple control box option that could easily be added to ANY Murano for control and playback of iPhone or iPod would not have been so hard. What does a loyal customer have to do to get iPod control asside from buying an LE? I almost regret buying the 2009 now. If I could have returned it within 30 days like Chevy is doing now, I would have. I would have waited for an LE to become available. I can only hope that someday (sooner rather than later) we get a relatively easy upgrade option for native operation and playback of the iPod.

I feel your pain.
My sojourn with the Murano is winding down and i+I am "in the market". It is not as common as you would think to find a good integration. Some do a form of integration where they have the ipod in the Glove compartment and it is connected to the radio from the headphone jack. That is not satisfactory. Really every car company should do what chevy has done on their "new" Equinox http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2...ce-tested.html Homer

I think they were one of the first, if not the first car company to offer ipod intregration. I looked at it, but simply could not justify the cost. The only problem I have ever had with either my 2006 or my newer 2009 Murano was the lack of iPod integration. If they could solve that in an elegant way, I would be extremely happy. =)

so i got the replacement unit... not any better. still the same thing.
now, to be honest with everyone, yes there are some minor glitches with the system. but as a whole, it is not bad, i will keep it. and hope they will come out with a firmware update. the only issues i have right now with it are: 1. when going back to XM radio, it only displays 8 characters on each line... if you start the car with the ipod unplugged its about an 80% chance that it will display correctly. subsequent starts with the ipod unplugged and the display is normal. 2. radio preset buttons do not work as described. (each button is suppose to control how u select songs, ie playlist, artist, album.. etc.) 3. steeering wheel prev/next controls only control the next/previous playlist or next artist, and not actually the next song within the list. Again these are pretty minor issues, everything else works... really wish they would fix number 1, but i will live. |

I feel pretty darn lucky after reading all these threads. I just picked up an '09 SL in October and it has the integrated IPOD feature built right in! It's plug and play right in the center console storage compartment. Everything displays on the monitor and can be controlled through the steering wheel. FAVORITE feature on the vehicle!! Is this not a feature that could have been added for other SL owners?

Well that is annoying. I wanted the option and I got mine in September. I was told that I could not get the option on the SL, only the LE. I want to know what it would take to get this installed! Grrr.
I just got off the phone with my dealer. He said that talking to his engineer, the SL head unit is with Traffic NAV (I am guessing he means XM Radio with Traffic) plugs into the same place where the iPod adapter would go. I asked if that means the traffic Nav (which I could give a **** about) can be removed or unplugged so that the iPod system can be plugged in. He said that the engineer (mechanic) said that once it is put together that way, it cannot be swapped. That seems sort of like a BS answer to me. Not like the soldered the cable in there. I am also sure the LE has both the iPod and XM Traffic and I find it hard to believe they made two distinctly different head units, one for the SL and the other for the LE. There has to be a way to install the parts. I just don't want to rip my dash out and start buying spare parts from Nissan to explore the option.
