Default Add a Power Liftgate

Hello All- This is my first post on this forum even though I've been lurking for several weeks My wife and I purchased a new 2010 SL Murano in Merlot last month. We both really like the vehicle and it was the only vehicle she "fell in love with" after driving several others, including a Lincoln MKX, Mazda CX9, and Toyota Venza. It broke my heart a little that she didn't pick the Toyota as I am a very happy owner of a 2009 Tundra. Anyway, on to my question.

Just about the only option that we didn't get on the MO that she REALLY would like to have is the power liftgate. I'm wondering if this is available as an OEM add-on, or even as an aftermarket mod. I'd prefer to stay with an OEM install but I'll consider an aftermarket if an OEM isn't available or is cost prohibitive. I don't expect this to be an inexpensive addition as I realize that not only does the power lift mechanism need to be installed but also the wiring and switch for the in-vehicle control as well as 2 new key fobs. Does anyone know if it is possible to add this option and roughly what it would cost? I'm in the early stages of research on this and, being a member of a Tundra forum, I've found that some of the very best information that I've received is from fellow owners of the same vehicle. I left a voice mail with the salesman who sold us the vehicle as well. Thanks to everyone who offers input.

Our '09 LE has the power liftgate and it is a nice feature to have. But lately I have been opening and closing it manualy because the dang thing takes forever to open and close, and it BEEPS the entire time - so anoying!

For those who want to know how to do it, you kinda double click the button, it releases the control of the motor and it opens nice and quickly via the stay (shock) - and NO BEEPS.

I thought the new MO's have a speed option for their power lift gates. If you push a button or something a certain number of times the gate will open faster or slower. Am I mistaken? I would have swore I read about it somewhere. Just don't know where.

You can disconnect th ebeeper, but no speed option on my '10. I only really appreciate the power liftgate when coming out of the grocery store from far away in the parking lot, otherwise it is little slow for me. I would not add it given the cost-to-benefit ratio (at least by my calculation). Unless the wiring harness is set up for it and there is available for the electric motor for door lift, I would not even bother. Does the SL already have the curved lift arm about 3/4 of the way over on the top of the hatch?

I shoulda disconnected the beeper before I installed the hitch. The hitch is in the way now. I could cut the wire from inside I suppose.

Most likely going to be very expensive add-on due to the fact that the electric motor on my '10 SL is in the headliner. This would mean replacing the headliner with the correct one to fit the motor. Then there's the cost of the wiring. As mattski mentioned, the benefits likely don't out-weigh the costs here. My '10 SL has the power liftgate and I find it really slow and the beeping to be annoying. If I were to buy new MO, I probably would opt out of the power liftgate.

Thanks everyone for the very useful input. I agree with the consensus that it's not worth the money. I think the slowness of it would get on my nerves too. My wife's reasoning is when she walks out of work with an armload of stuff it'd be nice to hit the button and open the hatch so she doesn't have to sit anything down or make two trips. I looked at the parts list for this thing on my local dealer's site and just the motor assembly is $690 The rest of the parts and labor are going to put it well over a grand. Cost to benefit ratio is NOT favorable!

Now try to explain that to the wife...

zebelkhan and MuranoSLVER- truer words were never spoken! Fortunately for me though my wife is an extreme tightwad and would probably shoot me dead if I were to spend this kind of money on that mod. So it works out, I get to look like the doting husband who wants her to have everything she wants in a vehicle without actually worrying about making the financial outlay!

How you disable the beeper for the power liftgate? If done so, does it disrupt any other feature?
I have the service manual showing the location of the unit itself and am considering just covering it to at least muffle the noise it emits.
The power liftgate was one option I wanted in the MO, and find it a very handy feature and do not think it operates slow at all. Thx in advance.

I believe you just disconnect the beeper which is just behind the rear bumper cover.

Merlot, this might throw a wrench in your plans to avoid spending money but you can still be the doting husband...
NISSAN "MURANO" 08-UP O.E.M PULLDOWN LIFTGATE DRIVE ASSEMBLY (POWER BACK DOOR) | eBay

Stumbled across it earlier today and it's cheap enough that I started wondering if it could be retrofitted to an '04.

The power liftgate and memory seats were 2 big reasons for us to buy the MO. It's actually my wife's car and she is short, 5'1" and really hates reaching up to pull down liftgates. Even though it isn't that high, it is still a struggle for her. Also due to the difference in our heights, I am 6'2", we definitely need a car with a 2 position memory. So those were items that were "must haves" on our shopping list.

Even though that beeping is annoying, my wife seems to like it. I told her I could disconnect it, and she told me to leave it alone. So, it is left alone!
