Wink MO in the snow?

Hey guys!

I saw the forecast here and it says it going to be snowing for a whole week long here in Vancouver, BC. This will be the first time my '11 LE going through the snow, so i was just wondering. How will it drive through the snow? How bout the CVT? Any opinions?

Thanks

My 2010 SL awd is great in the snow. But I learned to drive in snow with rwd first so compared to that awd is amazing. Just remember though, getting going usually isnt the hardest part, its stopping.

Havent really noticed the cvt at all, but I imagine you have the vdc with the LE so that usually kicks in and slows any slippage. I'm not sure if it applies brakes or slows the engine or both?

Did you get an awd?

I have no idea

Or am I thinking the awd lock? For if you get really stuck.

Anyway, I think the MO is pretty good in the snow. Some others on here have said otherwise but I like it

Today, we had plenty of snow, and decided to use the AWD Lock, So, I am stopped and activate the button, AWD lock light indicator comes on and there I go. After 10 minutes of driving I realized the AWD light is off. Does the AWD disingage after a certain speed or time.

Cause I activated again and the same thing.

Yes, depending on the year the speed differs. 2nd generation Muranos disengage the lock over 6 or 8 MPH. It's only meant to lock front and rear to get unstuck. Once up to speed the AWD system works normally.

I am in Vancouver, BC with 2011 SL model~!
Nice to meet you.

I got my baby last year in Jan 21th. (almost a new now) In Feb, it was snowing. I took my baby out for a spin with my friend. Me and my friend both were very impressed by the awd system. no issue at all. I do not feel any difference about CVT. it was very smooth. However, I guess the factory tires aren't very good in snow. I was a little bit tail-out at corner with a little bit faster speed. (49ave turning left to Cambie north). but i was back on track in no time~

Thanks, this makes more sense. Yesterday, I was not stuck in snow, but had a fair amount on the road, So I decided to engage the AWD lock, So I would have a constant 4x4, but did not notice much difference from AWD lock and and AWD lock.

Actually its to get out when you're stuck.

To the new AWD MO owners.....Do not be too trigger happy on the AWD LOCK BUTTON. I know you have to do it but keep it to the minimum....Its been strongly suggested over the years to never use the AWD LOCK except when stuck and unable to move from stop. This will prolong the life of your transfer case which seems to go bad real fast when driving with the awd lock engaged on dry pavement. The automatic system of the AWD will be sufficient enough in most of your drivng needs in the snow. Just fair warning. Speed is the real key in poor driving conditions. SLOW DOWN! ALOT.

With winter tires (Blizzaks) and AWD I rarely lose traction ... you do have to go easier on the turns and sudden braking as in any vehicle.

Agreed. The AWD switch should only be used if you are A:stopped and B:stuck in snow. Otherwise, MO will switch to AWD mode as soon as slippage is detected while car is in motion so there is no need to have the switch on.
