Check your power steering fluid and look for leaks. Sounds like a PS pump low on fluid. A leaky high-pressure hose is one reported often for the first series Murano..could happen on yours, too.

As long as it's on the dipstick you're not out of fluid, which is what I was worried about.

Is it a squeal like a loose belt, or a lower-pitched sound?...that's how I interpret "howl".

I had a 2009 LE that developed a grinding sound coming from the front end when making a sharp turn to the left. Took it in and they told me there was a TSB out on my model. Apparently the power steering pump needed a booster--at least that's what they told me. After the fix, no more problems. So far, I haven't noticed any similar noises with my 2011 LE. I would suggest you mention the TSB to them when you take it in.

Nothing, it was under warranty. If yours is out of warranty, I think they will still fix it at no cost to you since there is a TSB on it. That is, if your problem is the same as mine.

My 2011 makes a very faint howling sound when turning the wheel but you can't hear it unless the radio is off. It also only happens when turning the wheel, not if you hold it stationary while turning. BTW, it doesn't bother me.

Go to the dealer and have them check it. You now have the info you need. I bet it's the pump.

I'm getting a slight squeel on cold starts but definately a wine also. I'm guessing the pump and I will be checking the fluid level when I get home. Anything else I should look out for?

Sorry for bring this back from the dead, hate starting new threads for the same thing.

If you get a squeal for a moment, it's probably a loose belt. A whine can be a bearing or other things....may have to have a mechanic listen to it.
