That's actually a damn good idea. Wonder how much shipping for a car vs a CVT.

Are the Muranos the only cars the that transmission is guaranteed to fail once it is over 100k miles? I have a Mazda with over 130k miles and no transmission problems still. Can a murano be high in mileage and still have no transmission problems? Can a murano not have transmission problems throughout its life?

Default Transmission

I was told by the dealship Nissan has extended the warranty on their transmission to 100K. I did not check into it but that is what I understand.

120,000 miles in the US and 200,000 kilometers in Canada.

I have 2011 Murano and the extended warranty doesn't apply to 2011 model, I heard. Can I know the reason why ? Did they improve change the design of the CVT ?

That is a very good question, and I wish I had an equally good answer.

My best guess is it is one or more of the following: 1) Improved CVT design, 2) improved assembly techniques, and/or 3) yet to be announced change is support policy (third-party repair capability).

Also, even if the 2011+ CVT turns out to be [just as] unreliable I'm sure Nissan will step up and extend the warranty. In the meantime we're covered for 5yrs/60,000 miles so I'm not too worried about it.
