Default New Murano 2012 - Is there a trick to turn off engine - battery is dead - 300 miles

Hi All,
I have had the car a week, new to forum, car dead in driveway blocking other cars. interesting part is with dead battery, cannot get car out of Park so cannot push car our of way.

My question is, when turning off the engine, it it possible that if you hold the button down too long, it goes past the Off position and could end up in ACC on ON?

If this happened, in 24 hours, would battery be dead?

I did hear a chime when exiting the car, but checked and lights were off.

Thanks

Dave

Dave, I encourage you to read the Owner's manual from front to back. Lots of answers there. Indeed, you undoubtedly left the vehicle in the ACC or ON position and thus the battery was depleted. Other new owner's have posted here in the past with similar scenario as yours.

The pic below out of the owner's manual shows how to get the shifter out of park if you battery becomes depleted, etc..

If you push the ignition button twice rapidly the engine will stop and it will go to the acc. position. This feature lets you shut off the engine and continue to listen to the radio without missing a beat.

To release the shifter you remove the small cover in front of the shifter with a small screwdriver, and then use the screwdriver to push down on the shifter lock inside the hole. This will let you shift out of park but you still will not be able to steer. At least you will be able to move the vehicle enough to get it out of the way.

I called the dealer this morning and they sent a flatbed. they elected not to try to jump start it.

Car is now back home
Battery was completely drained.
Recharged
Charging system checked out ok.

Funny part is that when Service Department put the Vin# in thier own computer to prepare paperwork for me, it showed they still owned the car and I did not yet pick it up. So no paperwork or towing bill.

I am going to have to get used to making sure everything is off

Hit the button once fairly quick. Four quick beeps (bee-bee-bee-beep) when you open the door means the ignition is off. Three slow beeps (beeeeeep-beeeeeep-beeeeeep) means you're in ACC postion.

No need to hit the button "quickly" to turn the vehicle off. Just push, one single push and let off of the button.

If the OP has concerns, I suggest until you get used to it have the radio playing so you can hear it. When you turn the vehicle off the radio will go off / silent. As Dunbar mentioned you can listen for the Murano's little beeps as you will soon learn what the beeps mean. Also, (RTFM) read the manual so you have a clue what is going on with your new vehicle!

thank you
I did not know about the 4 beeps

What I am going to do is hit the buttom once and watch for my display to go black, which should mean nothing in on.

Thanks
