You can always keep a car running in good working order indefinitely if you keep replacing broken parts. Money matters aside.

That doesn't constitute "trouble free."

No it does not. But no car is trouble free in my book. New or used. Only difference is on a new one you get a free--warranty repair--but you still have the trouble/hassle of driving it to the dealer and arranging for alternative transportation in the meantime. From recalls to minor stuff as rattling, etc. Maintenance alone is a required hassle/trouble to attend to don't you think? Don't get me wrong, I like working on my cars..maintenance or otherwise. My idea of a trouble free murano is once I buy it new off the lot, all I need to do it gas it up and thats it.

BTW my comment was directed towards melodymurano who is hoping to keep his MO for another 10 years after the first 9 without much expense. Since he likes the looks of it so much. I am hoping the same on my 04 as well. Some folks like to keep a car running even if the finance of it does not make sense to most.

On these forums you will always hear/read people complain (squeaky wheel gets the grease.) With that said go to any other forum and you will see many more complaints than compliments on a vehicle. I too hope to get many miles on my MO.

I purchased our MO two days ago for my wife so definitely too soon to tell. But I am often on a Ford F-150 forum since I purchased a KR in June 2011. On that forum, I see the same thing, lots of issues. And I also see post just like yours asking why all the issues and the response is always that people love their truck and trouble-free when asked. It is really the nature of forums and I take those with a grain of salt. Posters in forums do not tend to just post all the good things about a vehicle but more about issues seeking advice. I've also heard that a small percentage of owners even visit forums compared to what is sold, so it is a very small percentage of actual owners that have issues what so ever. For myself, if I didn't know about forums, I would probably never search for one unless I had some major problems.

2010 here with not a lot of miles on it, but due for an inspection soon (No problems so far!!). As far as I can tell most of the problems with the newer ones seem to come from head gaskets (although that was changed mid 2010) and the transfer case for awd. BUT, most of these are happening well within warranty unlike the cvt transmissions of a few years ago. I'm very happy with the vehicle and it means more to me that people of every age are enjoying it.

I actually looked at and drove a Rogue and liked it, until I got in the back seat. Holy Cr@p! I dont think anyone over the age of 6 could sit back there comfortably! The wife and I then looked bigger and found the Murano.

We got our 2009 SL in May of 2008. We have over 54,000 miles on it. We haven't had one single problem with it, nothin', nada, zilch. We just replaced the tires at 52,000 miles, so can't even complain about that. I'm a fanatic about keeping it clean, and every time I look at that Super Black paint when it's clean, I can't imagine any better black paint job. Now that I've said all that, she probably won't start.

Default Great Car

We bought an 09 Murano SL AWD in summer of 08. Looked at rugue but Murano won hands down. Every option except nav. 21000 miles and just normal maintenance and I replaced cabin filter at 20,000. Did not want to give dealer $100. I am 6 ft 2 and have lots of room. We run regular gas and it is 18 -20 MPG around city and 23 -25 on road. I noticed MPG increases if you switch AC off in winter. Recorded 27 with AC off to WV and back. This is our 4th car. Had 68 Datsun roadster, 77 King Cab, 92 Maxima and this one. Has more bells and whistles than our 06 Town car.
Love the CVT.

Halwg,

We're on our 2nd Murano! We loved our first one ('03) SO much and pretty much had no mechanical issues to speak of in 112K miles over 8 years. The steering wheel leather was beginning to "chip" at the end, and the leather driver's seat over the years started to split. We had the seat repaired, but that's pretty much it. Changed CVT oil at 90K, replaced the plugs at 105K, new struts all around at 105K, first set of brakes went to 65K. Murano did go through 3 sets of tires (but that is "normal" for south Flordia roads). Also had to replace battery every 18 mos or so. Again south Florida heat. Never really had to pay for replacements as they were under warranty with Sears after the first replacement.

We liked a few of the new toys on the '11 model we got (power tilt wheel, 20" wheels, reverse camera, power tailgate) plus the ride was so much smoother on the '11 so we traded her in. We now have almost 17K on the new one, and no problems to speak of. I still miss the color of our '03 Sunlit Copper, but we get lots of compliments on our Graphite Blue.

Enjoy your Murano, and welcome to the forum! Lots of great people here!

Best regards,

Ken

Every car I've owned has had its share of troubles. But I've always had the best luck with the foreign cars. I loved the look of the new MO and have not been disappointed with it

Well, I bought GM cars in the 70's and 80's. So just about any car this side of a Yugo is going to be more reliable than those clunkers. I had some really bad ones during those years. The worst car I ever had was a 1974 Jeep Cherokee, the first year they came out with QuadraTrac. That car was in the garage more than on the road, and cars then only had 12,000 mile 1 year warranties. I got rid of it in 18 months.

I'm new here, having bought an '09 Murano SL with 50K miles a couple of weeks ago from a nearby Nissan dealer which had just received the car back after a 2 year 5 month lease, and the folks who had leased it turned around and leased a 2012 with the same Glacier White exterior. You get the impression they liked the Murano. We almost bought a new Toyota Highlander, which is a fine vehicle, but I didn't really want to buy new and the '09 Murano seemed like a good catch. Plus, the now-ubiquitous black dashboards in 2012 Highlanders (in all Toyotas?), regardless of interior color, was a turnoff to us. That cost-cutting measure contributed to cutting Toyota out of a sale, but I digress.

I just looked again at the Carfax report, and the only thing on it is a list of maintenance records. It looks to have been about as trouble-free as it could have been.

I didn't buy an extended warranty because of the above average reliability record reported by Consumer Reports. The track record on this one has been good, and I obviously hope it continues.

We're also on our second Murano. We loved our first one so me, we bought another! The first one was an 07 S that we bought with 17k miles. Drove it for 4 years, just short of 100k miles before we traded it in. Besides the normal maintenance, we had the broken driver's seat rail and a dead O2 sensor, both taken care of under warranty. We purchased an 11 LE about a month ago with a little over 6k miles. We love our new one even more!
