After market HID 2009+

Hey guys, first thread for me. I just installed a ddm kit on my 09 murano S (base package) ran into a lil issue. I get intermettent firing on my right headlight when I turn it on. I have to turn it on and off a few times to get it stay on. I read on the DDM website that i would have to raise the fuse headlights by 5 amps. I dont know if I should do this or continue doing what im doing now.Any suggestions?

BTW: please share which aftermarket HID kits do you guys have. I know theres another thread on here for HID kits but I dont know if its for 2009+. Thanks!

my ballast is morimoto from theretrofitsource.com.

bulbs are DDM since I dont want to apy another $$ for which I already have.. BUT i'll prolly replace it morimoto 4300K this summer.

your issue:

if you are running relay and you tried switching the ballast from side to another--- the culprit like what many owners have here is the BALLAST..

I have yet to try this out. but i went back to the guys who installed it for me and they told me to try that so I might try that tomorrow. Good thing ddm has lifetime warranty

Do you have the relay harness with the kit? If you are, what's upping the headlamp fuse going to do? I also use the Morimoto kit in our Murano but have the DDM kit in the Titan and Altima and all work fine.
Swap ballasts and see if it continues.

HTV, I dont have a harness. Its just straight plug-n-play. Maybe the murano uses a different voltage for the lights than the titan and the altima. I have this kit from DDM: DDM HID Kit, 35W, H11, 5000K. Im gonna try to swap the ballasts and see what happens.

Swap the ballasts and see if it still does it. If it does, I'd get the harmess before I went to a higher headlamp fuse. You may damage the wiring. The harness from DDM is cheap and only uses the headlamp power to switch a relay that takes full power from the battery directly. Much safer IMO.

dont up your fuse rating and NEVER run HID without a relay

yeah, try swapping the ballast.. let us know.

BTW, to anybody who has A/M HID's, do you have metal base, or ceramic base? just wondering b/c mostly HID nowadays has ceramic (plastic base)

TIA

Ok guys so i did some troubleshooting and found out the problem. (BTW: I had an old ballast from my old camry that I had ordered from ddm as well. I kept the ballast and tossed the bulbs.) Just like Banswee said: the culprit was the ballast. Switched the new ballast with the old ballast no more intermetent firing to get the lights to stay on. Now I just gotta get a new ballast so I can save the old ballast as a backup.

FWIW, upgrading a fuse is usually a very bad idea. Fuses protect the wiring, not the device, and automakers cut every cent they can on wiring.

Upgrade the fuse, and on a long hot run the wiring may overheat and the car catches fire. That's what the fuse is there to protect.

So unless you are totally certain that all the wiring in a circuit is able to take it--never upgrade a fuse size.

I also have a 2011 SL, and would like to convert to HID. can you tell me what parts or kit numbers used, and from who did you order them from.
Thanks

Ok guys I know its been a while but I decide to switch my HID over to Theretrofitsource. I heard alot of good reviews and decided to give them a try. I ordered the Morimoto 3five in 4300k. I went with the 4300k because I wanted more of a stock look to the vehicle.

I decided to switch because DDM lights were good but I noticed that with time both bulbs werent the same. I contacted DDM and they gave me the run around where I had to send in the bulb and yadda yadda yadda.Plus their shipping tmes were ridiculous due to their inventory coming from China. I ordered from TRS.com last night and had them shiped this morning. plus had a discount code that worked from about 2 years ago ;o). So I'll post the pics when I get the bulbs.

ebaez, not to pick nit but FWIW in the lighting industry "bulb" means a light bulb. What you call a "bulb" is called a "capsule" in HID systems. Any vendor who refers to them as "bulbs" is not using the right terms for the industry, which means they may not really know what they are dealing with, in any of the technical aspects.

Among the differences, the "capsule" ignites a fairly long ribbon of arc, so it has to be focused very differently from a bulb, in a totally different housing, if the light is going to hit the road properly.

Just FYI.

Thank you Red but I could care less what they call it. In the website They're called HID bulbs. Call it what you want I call them bulbs because Im using the website terms.

As far as the technicality of what the "bulb" does, I understand that it may be reflected improperly in a mirrored housing but I have used the bulbs from DDM in a projector housing and dont like the way the light was projected on the pavement. The bulbs werent good quality. But thank you for Clarifying the terminology in the lighting Industry for me.

I think you misread my point. You say:

"In the website They're called HID bulbs. ...but I have used the bulbs from DDM in a projector housing and dont like the way the light was projected on the pavement."

That's the crux of it. If the guys selling HID capsules are calling them "bulbs" you can expect to be disappointed with using them, even in the correct projectors. If you went to a fruit store and they told you "these are ripe pears" while holding up limes...would you expect a problem?

That's all I'm saying. If they don't know what they are selling, you're taking pot luck. Probably copycat parts made by someone who knows even less about how to correctly make them.

I'll be the first one to say that when carmakers force you into a $2500 package in order to get real simple safety equipment (HID lights), that's a rip-off. Or a $10k bump, when they say "HID only available on our loaded top model" as many do. But the no-name guys who say "yes yes all same"....Yeah, life's too short.
