The black thing is actually two plastic pieces that make up what Nissan calls the "inside mirror cover". Under the larger, lower cone like cover is your rain sensor. The smaller upper cover hides wiring.

I would've thought that was the antenna for the satellite radio installed by Nissan. That was quite clever
