Blown Headgasket?

Upon start up, sweet smelling smoke. 65k 2009 LE

Two questions-
1) What was the ambient temperature?
2) What color was the "smoke"?

If it was relatively cool in the garage what you may be seeing is nothing more than water vapor from the combustion process that condensed when you last shut down the engine.

Let's hope that is the case.

For what it's worth I have friends that both bought 2012 models and both have reported blown headgaskets. I have a 2009 and have never heard of this recurring issue but it may be one that Nissan is aware about on the newer models. Any way to check that?

Thanks. It happens in 40 degree weather and 90 degree weather. The color is white. Did the video link not work? Even if you copy and paste it?

Have you noticed a drop in coolant level in the reservoir?

If you have antifreeze leaking into the oil, the oil will be grey and frothy after you run it for a few minutes - check that. In that case, you need to act immediately and not driv it because the oil film is compromised and engine damage can result.

However, you can have an antifreeze leak to the outside without getting it into the oil.

Actually there have been various accounts of headgasket issues on the 2009s. It's been reported in several threads on this Forum.

Ok thanks everyone. I think i will just take it down to the dealership since its still under warranty and have it checked. Ill keep you posted on the results.
