Default UPDATE: Taillight Condensation - Dealer melted/damage using a Heat Gun

Has anyone experience condensation in the taillights (I searched the forum and nothing came up)?

I was wiping off the water/salt/dirt off the taillights and notice that my right taillight in the "L" silver area.

The left taillight has no condensation.

2012 MO SL AWD (less than 1700miles, bought new Nov 2012)

Two months old? Bring it back to the dealer.

Condensation inside the taillight assembly cannot be good for it's longevity.

It's been snowing on and off here in Ohio. I'm going to take it in once I get the LED DRLs parts.

I had taillight condensation like that in one of my Explorers. It wasn't cracked, it had a faulty seal. Probably what is wrong with the MO.

My 2010 had a lot of condensation in the driver's side taillight. Replaced under warranty as it is a known issue. Not a recall but known by the dealerships. No cracks so it must have been the seal.

My money is on the seal as well. Dealer should fix it no problem for you.

Yep, taking it to the dealer tomorrow with pictures.

The right taillamp condensation went away when I first posted this. Well it actually froze on the inside and then the sun melted/evaporated it.

Now it's back with a vengeance on both taillamps.

(Note: My MO is garage kept)

Took it to Jeff Schmitt Nissan. They told me that there's not enough condensation in the tailights to warrant for replacements. The service manager said that when I do have enough condensation, they have to take pictures with the "Official Nissan Camera" so that they can sent it to Nissan to get a decision. I was in and out within 10 minutes

So I took it to Beau Townsend on the other end of town. They took the time to research the issue. There's a TSB on the MO or any other Nissan vehicles that condensation occurs due to the ventilated design of the lamps.

The dealership attempted to remove the condensation on the right taillight with a heatgun and ended up melting the plastics with the lamp fogging up even more than it was before.

Bottomline - New right taillights. The left taillight was cleared overnight but I took pictures before I went to bed.

Good that they changed one I would have thought they'd do both. It's not surprising that the dealer didn't know about the recall info or even take the time to look into it. I've owned 3 Nissans over a 12 year period and dealt with 5 different dealerships 3 of which only cared about their bottomline not the customer.

Before I sold my Murano I took it to my local dealer (where I'd bought 2 other vehicles) to get the door unlocking sequence changed. They wanted to charge me $100+ dollars for a 10 minute job. I vowed at that time to drive the extra 40 miles to the other dealer for anything I needed done to my vehicle.

That was just a waste of time because you did not use an Official Nissan Camera.

An official Nissan Camera? Hmmm.... would that be a regular camera with official Nissan film, or an official Nissan camera with regular film? I could not find any mention of either in the service manual.

Yep Nissan called after a question on their USA Facebook page. They said it's normal to have little fog/condensation similar to fog inside the vehicle cabin and should go away. However, they said that it will be a concern if it worsen if it develops into droplets of water/standing water.

Beau Townsend replaced it but damaged the black plastic cover so they are replacing that too now. Not a good repair streak for them...(i.e. melting the outer taillight plastics w/ heat gun)
