Default wiper sensor

Does the wiper sensor work properly in MO's or is it unpredictable?

Sometimes it could be pouring rain and my auto-wiper setting at the lowest time setting would not work well at all. Tonight on my way home while we are getting a light dusting of snow the wipers kept going off at the highest setting every 3 seconds that I had to turn them off.

I have also had them go at a normal pace while I am on the highway but as soon as I pull off and stop they slow down or don't really kick on for a long periods of time even though its still raining out.. LOL

I'm sure there are other threads on this topic yet mentioning the Mo's wipers and calling them unpredictable isn't quite the word my wife and I use.....

We have labeled them "possessed!" And no dealer intervention or exorcism can help..

You are not alone..

I dont think it ever rains whereever they designed the auto wipers. Noooo way they tried these things out before they put them in production. They are my biggest gripe.

I have read the numerous threads on this, but on my '12 MO they work fine. I've never had a problem with them. I'm not sure where the sensor is located, but I guess that could be the issue with folks having problems.

One would hope they adjusted the logic or software etc in the wiper brain by now. Like others, my wife gets extremely frustrated with them. I have a good relationship with my dealership and even they admit the spastic issue yet also state Nissan hasn't given a fix for us older Mo's. They actually swapped out the sensor and all in one Mo with no effect.

It's actually humorous at times.. It can be poring and they go into full delay mode. Yet you come to a stop in a light drizzle and they go into a rage attempting to beat the snot out of the windshield!.!

I think mine works great. Every once in a while when it's "acting up", I just turn the wipers off and then back on to auto, and it starts working great again. It's kinda like it resets it.

KJS, that would be strange to have them act that way. I have not experienced such an issue.

It's not unusual. Mine have never worked right. 2 days ago we got some snow and rain. It was light so I put on the sensor setting and it never came on. I had to keep pushing lever up every minute to do one swipe because not enough moisture on window to keep on all the time. These sensors are a POS. Wish I had the intermittent wipers like my old car had. They worked perfect and did the job they're supposed to. But this is my only complaint about the MO

I guess the lower models like the S and SV just have intermittent wipers, is that correct? I was thinking the rain sensing function is found on the SL and LE.

I wonder why Nissan hasn't addressed this issue?

Ours have never worked correctly. Auto wiper systems are not rocket science, we had them on our Lexus RX's and we have them on our current Lexus GS, all work fine. Our Mo wipers are psychotic, or better yet, can be described as totally schizophrenic...you never know what they are going to do, but guaranteed that whatever it is, it will be unexpected and infuriating. It's the one thing on our Mo that I absolutely detest.

Interesting, I'm looking back and a lot of the folks saying their intermittent wipers are "possessed" have a 2009 model. I have a 2012, and have not had the issues. Could it be the earlier models?

They work great on my 2011. I was a bit worried about them before after reading other's complaints, but they have worked so well I don't even notice them anymore!

Wonder what the difference is between the 09 and later models. Is there a software fix for what ails our wipes? Living in the PNW where we have a lot of rain, misting, and generally damp weather in the fall/winter season, having working wipers is a must. Currently mine are a real PITA!

I have an early 09 LE and the only weird thing that I have noticed is that when I am backing into the garage (and the sensor wiper setting is on) I will get one slow wiper swipe as the windshield is passing through the garage opening. I'm thinking it may have to do with SHADOWS and the sensor. Take care!
