Default 2009 engine oil pressure maintenance light

I bought a used 2009 with about 80 miles on it. it is now at 2600 miles and has had one oil change - about to go in for the second this week.

My problem - the temperature was about 17 degrees yesterday. warmed car about five minutes and was off. sometime later i noticed the engine oil pressure maintenance light came on. i pulled over to read the manual and returned home (less than a mile). My oil level is fine - i read this can be catastrophic? will have it towed to the dealer for service. anyone have a positive outcome with this type of warning? what are the possibilities?

Welcome to the forum.

Assuming you correctly read the difficult-to-read dipstick and the VQ has sufficient oil, then I would suspect either a defective oil pump, defective oil pressure switch, or a blocked oil filter. All three would be unusual in a MO with only 2,600 miles.

80 miles on a 3 year old car does not sound right. Plus stopping and checking the oil level right away is close to impossible to get the correct read.

Yes, it is difficult to read -- my husband read it four or five times. Should i read anything into your comment that all three would be "unusual". And, what is the alternative if it was misread? Do you agree that it should be towed? Thanks so much

the car was a "fleet" car, and I purchased it from carmax with less than 80 miles on it.

Did you even check the oil level since you got the car?

Yeah.......fleet car with only 80 miles is a red flag for me. They even sell brand new cars with that much miles on it.
