It doesn't seem like I've seen many posts from 2004 owners about their Murano satisfaction. Have a lot of the chronic problems (window rattles, steering loss at slow speeds, door lock issues, loose seat, squeaky brakes, etc.) that 2003 owners have complained about been fixed or is it still too soon to tell? Any real noticeable improvements over 2003?
Thanks,

| Just the loose seat - actually the seat is firmly bolted to the floor pan - there is just to much plan and many noises coming from the seat. Took it to the dealer on Saturday and they did not do anything - they are clueless. I hat to make a generilized statement like this - but it appears that Nissan has a very poor dealer network. This is my 4th nissan. |

You forgot about the brake pedal going all the way to the floor, the rattle under the car, the tapping from the B-Pillars, the THUD from the tailgate area, the vibrations in the seats, and the other assorted noises coming from the 2003.
Mine has been in the shop 21 DAYS over the past 6 months......still not fixed. |

So far so good.... had the Glacier Pearl 2004 for 8 days now. Absolutely no problems... I keep listening for the known 2003 problems (ie: window rattle), but nothing is noticeable. I thought that I had a rattle coming from the steering column, but it was just that big honkin' key fob (along with my other keys) rubbing near the ignition cylinder.
Biggest problem I foresee will be keeping it clean and keeping it under 4000 rpms until the break in is finished. Does it ever get moving launching from 2nd, it can really move it's 4000 lbs butt.
I'll reply to this post if problems are encountered in the near future. |

I have a 2004 SL AWD (9/03 buid) with everything but Nav with 700 miles on it. I have the window click on the driver's side, but it doesn't really bother me. I had a bunch of rattles in the back, but fixed those by:
(1) removing the cargo cover
(2) tightening up the jack in it's storage place
(3) tightening the bolt holding the spare tire in
(4) putting some foam between the spare and the cardboard cover
Other than that no problems. I got 22 mpg on the first tank and 23 mpg on the 2nd. Mostly highway miles. |

At just under 200 miles, any comment may be premature. That said, so far our 2004 SL AWD (SL Touring + VDC) exhibits none of the problems mentioned. I did briefly think we had a rattle in the cargo area, but it turned out to be a bone we had left there after taking a ride with our dog.

I own a 2004 SL Polished Pewter with Touring Package, only thing the car does not have is AWD and GPS. So far it has been perfect, no problems.
Spoke to soon, I too have the pop coming from the drivers window in upper rear corner. It does not occur all the time and is not very loud. But I sure hope they get a handle on this and fix it.
Up date April 27, 2004. The window pop seems to be getting better on it's on. Other than that I have had no problems with the car. |

| My 2004 SL AWD is three weeks old with 1800 miles on it. The driver side B-pillar tapping started at 1400 miles and a clicking noice in the glovebox region started at 1600 miles. Looks like Nissan did not fix these rattles in 2004. I am disapointed. |

I have had the 04 MO for a month now with 1300 miles and no rattles or problems with it. I notice that there seem to be a lot more detail with the seals around the doors and rear hatch. I think they may have either added different seals/weather stripping or added more of it. No squeaky breaks, No stiff/hard steering at slow/low speeds, no window rattles.
All around, it is as solid as the day I got it. And the roads I drive on in NYC are some of the worst in the world. So its been through a lot even if it is only 1300 miles.
I will keep you updated on the status of it :)
Do you think Nissan would email us what was fixed or modified on the 04's |

No problems with my 2004 SL AWD with Nav for the first 1000 miles. I thought it had a window rattle at first, but it turned out to be the little "level ball" indicator on my child's car seat.
Perfect ride. Feels very solid. |

| 2004 SL 2wd everything but nav and sat. No problem except window ticking/popping noise on driver-side mainly when windows are up or down, and passenger-side noise when window is down... thats it. |

I have a 2003 SE AWD with 11000 miles and have recently encountered the glovebox clicking as well. Its so annoying! |

2004 silver awd all options but the NAV.
4000 miles and no problems. i had that steering wheel bolt thing going, but that's fixed. no rattles, or anything like that, nothing from the glove box, thank God. all in all, the 2004 is solid. i'm very very happy with my buy. :D |

| 1200 miles and no problems except one - a rattle in the armrest. At first, it sounded like the dreaded passenger-side rattle I have been reading about but careful testing led me to the armrest. Once found, a self-adhesive felt pad cured the problem. The car is now amazingly quiet and solid.:D |

| Except for the doors locking unexpectedly and and surging when cold (haven't seen a post on this) mine has been trouble free (knock on wood). 2300 miles purchased 12/1/03. My gas mileage is not up to the EPA, but it is new (the dealer says it may take up to 8,000 miles to get broken in), and my use most of the time is local. |

| I have a rattle in the armrest as well. After that I'll look for the one that comes from somewhere in the back, possibly the cargo cover. |

Not a problem yet on mine except for being locked out several times. Poor erogonomics on Nissans part. See this thread for a solution. http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/...=&threadid=1465
I also had the "door ajar" thing come up once but it has not returned since. |

Fiddled with the center armrest by moving it as far forward as possible and all of a sudden no rattle. The armrest seemed to have previously been in a middle position. |

Oops! I spoke too soon.
Driver side door locked itself today. Luckily I left the window open. The other doors did not lock, and the manual door lock was still in the UNLOCKED position. (I checked this very carefully)
And I noticed the heavy steering at low speed issue whilst the car was warm. Previously it only seemed to happen when the car was cold.
Still no rattles though. |

i do have one qualm about the 2004. i have yet to see it on any of the complaints on this forum, so either its just my car, or i'm just being nit picky.
whenever i press the button to open up the cup holder, there are times when it doesn't open. i have to sit there with my coffee in hand moving the button around looking for the right spot so that the sucker will open. other days though, when and if i press it once, it just opens up. any ideas? |

2004 SL AWD Black on black. More problems than I feel there should be for the price...
1) Vibration at hwy speeed = 4 wheels out of balance
2) Dirvers seat rocking = TSB for lifter assy
3) Driver and passenger front door rattle (window/ b pillar rattle)
4) Passenger 'a' pillar rattle
5) CD player skipping
6) Cargo area rattles
7) Pulling to one side / steering wheel not straight
8) Cup holder stuck closed when cold
9) Change holder cover not lined up
Not very happy with it overall.

| My cupholder lid is difficult to get open sometimes also. Seems related to temperature as it's usually in the early am that I have trouble getting it open. Waiting for the weather to warm up to see if it goes away. |

My cupholder's been doing this for a couple of weeks now, as well. Could be the cold? I realised yesterday that I can push down on the back part (other side from latch) while unlatching it, to give it a little help. It's not doing it all the time, but enough to be annoying. A really minor annoyance, however.
13 months old, and still lovin' it!:jump3: |

I've had my Murano for 1 month - now with 1200 miles. I have the reverse brake squeal. I also have rough braking - feels like discs or pads are warped or something. Other than that, I have no complaints about my Murano. I read a lot of these posts before buying it and I think that your opinion of it depends on what you drove before. Some people had driven a Lexus RX300 and then went to a Murano complaining about the lack of smoothness in the Murano. I had the opposite view as I was driving a V8 4x4 Jeep...Murano is very smooth comparatively. I think it all depends on your perspective.
Anyone else had rough braking on their Murano? |

Not enuf to officially complain.........
And I am going to get new pads anyway (TSB for the Squealing brakes).
But During my recent roadtrip, a couple of times the brakes seemed to go "cruuunnnnnnccccchhhh".
Squeal is one thing, crunch is quite another.
I wasn't braking hard either.
But it only happened twice in 10 days and it was not reproducible.
Bears watching I suppose.

Hey krpster, I'm from London too. I assume you bought your MO from South London Nissan Infiniti.
I've been monitoring this sight for a few weeks now, great help. Was ready to buy MO but see that there are too many problems.
Do you think the reliability issues would disappear if I went to an FX 35? and spent the extra 6G?
Are you having the steering problem?
What else were you looking at?RX330?

Thinking of Trading in RX330 for 2004 Murano by edev31 Mar 16, 2004 (6:58 pm)
Hi Everyone,
I have the same question as eweiss regarding the 2004 Murano and if all the "bugs" have been worked out.
I currently have a 2004 RX330 with so many tranny problems, electrical problems, rattles, etc. that my dealer can't fix so they offered to buy it back. The Murano was my other choice from the beginning(it was a hard decision!)
I know the problems usually don't start occurring until you've had the car a while, but if anyone has a 2004, your feedback would be greatly appreciated! |

| Bought my 04 Midnight Blue SL AWD two weeks ago. 750 Miles on it so far. Have seen none of the problems folks are writing about: squeaks, rattles, steering, etc. Only bad thing is mileage; around 16.5 so far. Mostly city driving. So far, love it! |

Is there someway that as a group we can document and track the window tick problems that we encounter?
Maybe we can build enough of a case so that at least if Nissan doesn't support us, we can possibly turn the findings over to an independent agency or publication like Consumer Reports and force Nissan to address the issue on current and newly built Muranos.
Tracking information could consist of the following:
Model Year
Date of Purchase
Date of Manufacture
Port of Entry
Dealer Location
VIN ( not sure if this should be a secure item)
Model Type: SE, SL, AWD, FWD
Problem Description
Action Taken: none
reported to service department
reported to Nissan
Resolution: none
fixed
worse/created more noise related problems, etc.
Just an idea, feel free to comment and/or enhance! |

| got an 04 pearl white SL, are the door locks supposed to lock automaticly? also i had a problem with loud clicking from my front wheels. I had it fixed it ended up being loose steering rack bolts. I suggest all of you check this out to the way to check is turn your wheels all the way to the left or right when you are parked when you get to the point where you can;t turn the wheel anymore you will hear a loud *click* if you hear this i suggest you go get it fixed. I hoped in 2 other muranos on the lot and they did it as well. |

Yes the steering bolt problem is very widespread, even though Nissan has known about this problem since summer of last year. I wonder why they have not updated the robot that tightens that bolt! |

| kosta157 - Below the LCD Display, there will be a button titled Setting. Press the Setting Button until you get to a Personalized Setting's Menu "Press Joystick Down". As you move through the personalized menu you will find a setting for Auto Relock. You can adjust 1 minute, 5 minutes , or 30 minutes (I think), or off. |
