Auto cross - Click HERE for Original Thread

New to San Antoino, I was cruising with my 13 y.o. son in our '26T-bucket (Something I had always wanted). As we went by a high school parking lot there was an auto cross going on. I pulled in the entrance and was met by a guy waving frantically and yelling "You can't come in here." The closer he got the louder and more insinced he got.

When he got to me he said "This is for race cars only, you will have to park across the street. " I really wasn't thinking about participating, but he seemed to be issuing a challenge to me. "What if I wnat to race?" I asked. "You can't race THIS(?)" I said "Why not?"
"You have wire wheels (On the front)." He was right they were motorcycle type spindle mount 3 1/2" wide. The rear were 29"x 10" Mickey Thompsons. The motor was a 350 new version Chevy (Valve cover bolts in the center) with a 2x4 tunnel ram, everytrhing polished and stainless steel lines, with a blower type scoop on top of the carbs.

"What if I keep the wheels in the air, then can I run?" "They will break down in the turns." He said. "Well, what do I have to do to race?" I said. "Pass tech." "O.K. let's do it."

In the end they loved seeing it pivot around those cones and blast down the short straight aways. You have never experienced oversteer until you have driven something with that much tire size difference. Then again, all you do is a slight turn of the wheel and a lot of right foot and you almost spin around.

They made sure I knew when the next cross was and loved every "Performance."

Can I take a picture of it to a photo center to have it digitalized? I don't think I have pic on anything digital.

At a car show once, I was polishing on the intake when a guy and his father (?) were nearby. The elder said "This one has two motors."
Not remembering seeing anything with two motors I stopped to see what they were looking at. To my suprise he was looking at my car.

I had a lexan mirrored firewall and he was seeing the reflection in it. Hey, pretty neat! A 16 cly/ 4-4's. What a ride.

There is very little in life that I enjoy more than Autocrossing! I highly encourage all of you to get out and try it (not in the Mo though). It's amazing what you can learn about driving and the limits of your car.

I've instructed a few novice schools and competed in my Nissan Sentra SpecV for the past few years. Recently got rid of the SpecV and picked up a '93 Toyota MR2. Oversteer is much more fun than understeer :)
