Question about new tires and TPS system - Click HERE for Original Thread
uiowa
I've tried searching and couldn't find anyone that has asked the question. Maybe it's because it's a stupid question but here is goes.

Can any old tire place put new tires on my Mo or do I have to go to the Nissan dealer since my Mo has the tire pressure monitor system?

I've hit 46K on the original goodyears and need new rubber.

Welcome to the forum.

No, you do not have to go back to the dealer to have tires replaced on your TPMS-equipped wheels. Any reputable tire store can handle it. Just let them know your wheels have TPMS.

Out of curiosity, what brand tires are you going for?

I recently replaced my tires with Good Years. I got 72,000 km. out of them and could have gone a bit further, but winter is coming and decided to replace them. Canadian Muranos have full size spare, so I purchased 3 new tires and used the spare as the 4th new one. The wheel also had the TPMS on it. I replaced them at a non-dealer. The 3 original wheel monitors work fine, but the spare does not give me a reading. I will have to go to the dealer to reset that monitor. I can only imagine what the $tealer will charge for that. So to answer your question, I would assume if you replace tires on original wheels, they should work. Some have replaced their tires with Michelin. I believe the mileage I got out of the Good Years was acceptable, and they also look more like a passenger tire as opposed to the knobby Cross Terrains.

Thanks for the quick response.

I'm looking at either going with the Goodyear Eagles again or possibly trying out the Kumho Solus KR21. The cheapest I can find the Goodyears are $700 and the Kumhos are $550. The kumhos come with a 85,000 mile warranty the Goodyears nothing.

I've read here that a few people like the Kumho but I've never heard of them.

You should be able to get Kumho's for less than 550. Mine cost about 410 installed. If you go with Kumho tires DO NOT have them ship to you and DO NOT carry them in your car. I made that mistake. They stink and the smell will kill you! Have them shipped to the nearest recommended installer....

You shoulda gone with the Chocolate Kumho tires. No stink and quite tasty!

I have the Kumho Solus KR21's and they are holding up nicely.

These Kumhos are so stinky I am sure nothing could help. But so far they have been great tires. Tried them in pouring rain a few weeks ago and they performed really well.

just replaced all 4 tires.... cost was 964$ at Costco.....

considering how cheap you can get them at US stores and how strong CDN dollar is, ii was thinking a trip down south, but that is 4 hrs drive JUST to the border and u never know how are u gonna get greeted at the border ..... so it was a safe bet to just get it done at costco....

hahahahahhaha.... interestingly, i never had issues getting back into Canada (i dont have Canadian passport). but entering US was painful once.... and after that, i give at least 2 hrs window for border. and everytime they see my passport, i get pulled over and get the TREATMENT....

I do not have US passport. What I do have is a passport of a country belonging to Commonwealth! You would imagine that “fellow Commonwealth-nian” would treat you friendly….no such luck….I was easier to enter UK, Germany, Chile, China, Colombia and other counties than Canada! Funny I still have a standing job offer out there…..would be nice in summer time but winter? Brrrrrr, no way….

Finally decided to go with the Kumhos. So far they're good. Very quite. Thanks for all the input.
