Aftermarket Navi in non-navi lcd screen - Click HERE for Original Thread

I've been looking for solution to add navigation unit into the non-navi OEM LCD screen.

I ran into "DUAL XNAV9525 NAVIGATION SYSTEM UNIVERSAL ADD-ON" which can be connected to any in dash video screen or unit that has audio and video RCA inputs. And it's controlled via IR remote control.

Here's more info on the navi:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item...l+XNAV9525.html

So after searching the forums, I'm assuming I can do this using:
- plug and play unit from tvandnav2go.com for the video
- PAC AAI-NIS2 unit for audio

Does this sound correct and doable?

Thanks in advanced!

It appears that the setup you described should work. Only problem (if you want to call it that) is that if you plug the audio into the pac aai-nis2 then you wont be able to listen to your radio/cd/sat at same time since radio will be tuned to aux in.

You still have some options though:

1. Listen to pre-stored mp3 on navi unit (10 gb storage).

2. Use navi unit for visual only and have audio source on what ever you want. You'll just have to either know your presets since the audio will have no display, or switch back and forth between the 2.

Thats a helluva price for a navi though. Does it include the gps antenna? Typically dual doesnt make the best quality stuff (radios and speakers), have heard/read any review on the unit?

This is a similar unit which comes with an external speaker for voice commands. Downside is you gotta put that speaker somewhere:

Thanks for the input. That's a good point. I do want to listen to radio/sat while on nav mode.

I'm asking the seller whether gps antenna is included in the price. And I could not find any review at all!

Found another similar item with an external speaker:

I have a carputer that acts as MP3 audio player as well as Navigation. To get around the listening to radio and CD problem while on Navigation, I built a little device consisting of two relays and a small amplifier which I salvaged out of a small and outdated hands free ( used for cell phones) sytem. I mounted the speaker under the dash where it could not be seen and connected its power line to one of the relays. Used the "amp turn on" wire from the PAC audio to operate the relay so that it would turn on the speaker/amolifier when I was on Radio or CD, and off when I was on Aux (carputer/navigation). Used the other relay to switch audio from carputer to either the speaker, or to the car's audio system, The second relay used the first one for power so it worked in sync with it switching output depending upon which unit was on.

Now whenever I listen to MPS and Navigation, I hear everything thru car's audio system. When I switch the system to CD or radio, I hear navigation through the speaker while listening to radio or CD thru the main speakers

Simple design, yet effective....

Sounds simple . . .

To you.

Im good at installing stuff, not building electronics. If the time ever comes where I add navi to my MO I may ask more questions, but until then, Ill just sit here and be confused.

Sounds like a great solution zebelkhan!

Btw, found garmin gvn 53

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=10573

high sensitivity receiver
speaks street names
and comes with speaker talk box

A bit pricey but I think I'm gonna save up more and go with this instead of the cheap unknown brands without reviews..
A friend is using nuvi 200 and I liked it better than my tomtom ONE bec it seems like the map is more accurate.

Hey Folks,

Good news! I just got done installing the GVN 53 from Garmin and want everyone to know that it works great!!!! I also have the
audio come thru the radio, so when JILL Garmin speaks the radio
automaticly mutes down & then goes back on again, just like factory navigation does. I have been using it for a day now very nice.

I can post some pictures if anyone would like.

Thanks

Did you connect it to screen through RGB connection or through composite video and one of those little conversion boxes? If through RGB, did it come with what you needed to give screen 2 inputs? How do you switch between nav and radio?

Did you do the install or get it installed by someone else?

It took me 2 hours to get home from work yesterday. Its about 18 miles. If I had navi with traffic updates I would have known to take an alternate route. Its value keeps goin up in my mind. I dont want to suction cup one to the window though. Its too much hassle to pull in an out everytime I park so nobody breaks window to jack it.

Hey,

Here is pic of gvn 53 on my 07 Murano.(Night shot)

Details to follow.

Hey 07,

I am actually looking to add the Garmin GVN 53 also.

How did you install it? Are you using one the video converters like NavTV2go, PAC, or GNET?

Do you use a remote to switch between NAV and OEM screen or a switch/button?
wilsondmj
From Garmin website:
"With an optional XM antenna and a subscription to XM services, you can check the weather, move ahead of traffic and listen to XM radio when you travel with GVN 53."

Does anyone know if the XM radio info (song name, artist, channel#, etc) can be displayed while the map screen is up? Was hoping that the XM info can be displayed at the bottom of the map...
