hi guys
First sorry for english mistakes...
I just bought 265/55 dunlops winter sports and got them installed on my original rims... The thing is they dont seem to be larger ?? If I compare them beside a bmw X5 with 255/XX Tires, the X5 tires seems to be much larger.
Why is that ? Is it beacause my rims are not large enough to let the tire take all its width, or the tires arent really 265s ??
thanks !!

265 refers to the width of the tire at its widest cross section, not the actual tread width, which as you surmised is determined partly by how wide your rims are. If you check Tirerack's spec charts you will see how wide the tread width should be on a particular sized rim. A tire with a shorter sidewall will have a tread width closer to its overall width.
Besides for winter tires you want them to be a thin as possible to cut through the snow. Wide tires are worse in snow. |

I know but these tires were at 98$ each on tirerack, riduculous price.
Thanks again
