Remote Start on an S without intelli key - Click HERE for Original Thread
murano_jay
The other remote start thread/s seemed to have most of the users with the intellikey. I have the base 2007 S AWD model and a regular keyfob w/o the intellikey. I have a few quick questions and I'd appreciate it if someone could answer them.

What are my options with installation of the remote start? Mostly DEI products , are they reliable?

There's a quite a few Circuit Citys close to where I live, what has been your experience with them? yay/nay?

Does the installation of the remote start system void the warranty?

Almost all the remote start key fobs I've seen seem bulky (in the pics) with a stubby antenna, are there any sleeker better looking designs/w/o the treo 650 stubs?

Any thing I should keep in mind or need to tell the mechanic when I go get a quote/get it done?

Thanks guys,

I just got the murano used a month ago and I am loving it (the rdx was a little more than I wanted to spend, the cx-7 hadnt been around long enough, seemed like a tough decision but I am glad I got the Mo)

I'd also like to thank you guys for the posts about the ipod connector, I got one and works great, I guess I should post THANKS in the relevant thread.

If you'd like to continue using the factory keyfobs there are add-on remote start systems. Meaning in order to use the remote start with your keyfob you'd press in sequence: lock, unlock, lock. Ive installed a ton of Audiovox branded ones without any problems. DEI also makes them but I havent had any experiences with them.

IMO, if you live in an area with a high rate of car theft Id invest in a 2way system. Otherwise I'd just get an add-on remote start.

Oh, and the alarm (or remote starter) is only as good as its installer. So do some research at local shops or other members that live in your area that have these systems installed. Just because one person says "Circuit City did a great job with the install!" you cant really say ALL Circuit City's are the same ;)

I agree with Jude. Also, I had the Viper (DEI) XV 771. It's a remote start, alarm combo with a 2 way remote. The same as the XV 791, but with LEDs on the remote instead of an LCD (LEDs won't smash if you drop the remote, and the remotes are $100 cheaper). It worked great.

I have the LED remote system without the remote start in my car. I believe its the Viper3000 model. My gf has the 791XV system, and I tried talking her into getting the LED remote system because the LCD screen remotes tend to break often. What sucks is that my remote broke before hers did, and she doesnt even have any scratches on her screen lol.

If DEI is a little too pricey for you, I'd recommend the CrimeStopper line. Installing CrimeStopper systems are real simple compared to anything else (IMO) because the installation manuals are very user friendly. However, if you dont have any 12v knowledge or the proper tools I still wouldnt recommend on trying to install one yourself.

Thanks for the reply guys.

I went to the DEI website to find authorized service centers that carried their products found a custom stereo shop close to my neighbourhood that specializes in DEI remote start systems and carried VIPER products.

I don't recall the model number , but it was pricey (549.99 unless I got ripped off) and is a two way with the LCD.

Looks like the 791XV. $549 is a little high IMO. As long as everything works fine and you've got warranty its all good. I got the one for my gf for about $200 off of someone on Craigslist.com.
murano_jay
Yeah its a 3 year warranty. And I do realize that its on the higher side, but I asked around, a few people had horror stories about circuit city work and that leading to issues with nissan warranty.

Also, impluse buying and sensible bargain hunting are usually mutually exclusive , we had the first bit of snow in Northern VA and thought I HAD to have the remote start this weekend. As long as it works fine I think I'm ok it.

So I thought I'd be safer off with these custom guys, considering they had done a ton of muranos before.

I just wish the fob was cooler looking.
Jude
Cooler looking? Lol, its not that bad! What sucks is how that system only comes with 1 remote. You can buy a backup remote on eBay for like $50 but I dont think they are 2way. They do look pretty cool IMO.

Why do you have both Nissan and Viper remotes on your keychain?

PS. I think we've all had a little impulse buying, especially if its for something we really want/cant wait for :D

Well I guess its kind of goofy to carry both the fobs, I didnt have a partcular reason why. lol

Cooler looking - well the intellikey is cool looking for one, the mazda cx-7, VWs I like those better.

I like the keyfobs integrated with the keys (Hondas, toyotas)

And I find the blue kinda cheap and plasticky, I wish it was matte black and didnt have the stubby antenna.

but ...I have adopted him now and I will love him like my child, so what if he is a little blue. lol

LMAO!

I myself like the keyfobs on the RX8's. Im not sure if its the same as the CX7's or VW's (the switch blade key thing is cool) but ont he RX8's its the card looking thing... no need to insert keys cause it has the push button start.

But Im glad you're lovin the new security system. Oh, if you dont want the remote to get messed up or the LCD screen scratched they sell leather keyfob covers for those remotes on eBay for like $10.
murano_jay
the leather cover is a lost cause, i think i already have a scratch/es.

thanks for the info tho,
