A few weeks ago my truck developed the "check disk" error with my BOSE head unit. Being just out of warranty I immediately scoured the internet for possible fixes, to no avail. So I then researched my options for replacement and found new OEM units for $900 to $1100 orderable from online sources. eBay had BOSE headunits starting at $100 but were quickly bid out of my current funding range. So I elected to have the headunit fixed from a stereo repair shop. I would have to send the unit to them, so I decided to wait till after the holidays to do so. In the mean time, I figured I would disassemble the head unit and find the root cause of the problem. I have quite a bit of training with electronics, PC boards and computers, and I realized that if I was going to send the unit to be fixed anyway....I really couldnt break it more than it already was!
So disassembly was real easy with a stereo removal diagram from the service manual in hand. Then I moved into uncharted territory....disassembly of the headunit! I took everything apart...had about 50 screws taken out. Upon first glance everything seemed normal...its amazing the ammount of gadgetry they can squeeze into these things. I checked the spindle for free spinning, checked the lens drive for proper range of motion, etc, etc. I then put the unit back in the truck (disassembled) and connected it back up. I wanted to see exactly what function was failing to give me the error. Upon insertion of a CD (any cd actually) I found the spindle was not spinning up to the required RPM. So I took a little graphite and sprayed it under the CD holder onto the motor, gave it a little manual spin, and PRESTO! The player spun right up and now works flawlessly! While I had it all apart I also cleaned the lens with a microfiber cloth and lubed the lens drive with some graphite as well.
I put everything back together and back into the truck (with only 4 leftover screws!), and now I have a working player. So anyone who gets the "check disk" error and cant pursue warranty repair...check it out for yourself!! It may be a simple fix just like what I had.
Also while I was in there I looked into the left channel cutting out while listening to CD issue... The only bad connection I could find was on the molex plug on the back of the CD player. Some of the wires in the connector were kinda loose, so I reinserted and re-crimped them. Time will tell if that fix works!

My wife is having this exact problem and I thought I'd give this a shot.
Where does one find this graphite stuff? I asked the resident moron at RadioShack and got a long blank stare.

Well you could also get it at your local key shop/Home Depot. It's used to lubricate locks and dead bolts. |

i'm new to the whole murano field but i've had 2 Z's Z31 gen. so i'm a little familiar with how nissan works....but what i would really like to know is how to take out the unit itself i read what you said about the whole graphite theory and the connector. its very interesting and i need to try it for myself. so if you would be able to supply me with a diagram of some sortso that i don't end up messing something up you know....get back to me plz?
