I've loved CBs for years and have had one in my vehicles since back in the 70s. I rely on them for accidents and/or traffic stoppage that may be ahead of me as I travel. I don't want to have to slam on the brakes because I was unaware of a traffic jam ahead just over the next rise in the road. I use it to warn others behind me of unexpected stops too. I don't want a heavily laden 18-wheeler to be surprised by my vehicle stopped in the middle of I-75. My CB has saved me plenty of times as I monitor channel 19.
But, our Mo is my wife's vehicle and she doesn't want holes drilled in the interior or unsightly metal boxes stuck in the dash. Nor would she allow an antenna to be permanently installed on the MO either. And, because it's garaged, a permanent antenna wouldn't work.
I went looking for a small, compact CB and found this little beauty. Note its dimensions. It fits in the little 'cubby' that's under the center of the dash with room to spare. I added a 90-degree antenna connector to the back of the CB so I could route the coax cable to the side without putting a bend in the cable. The coax was then pressed into the vertical slit on the left side of the carpet board, leading the coax along side the floor to the driver's seat to the rear seats where the coax then finds it way out the door along the rear area of the door so I can place the Little Wil magnetic base antenna on the roof.
I spliced in a cigarette-type adapter to the CB's power wires. I routed that wire under the right side of the plastic trim next to the cubby, leading the adapter back to the plug-in inside of the console. Nissan even provided a groove for the wire to fit into as it goes under the console lid. The microphone rest's in the cup holder next to the driver's seat.
I attached the included bracket to the CB though it wasn't necessary as the CB's front end rest's on the front edge of the cubby, allowing for the radio's transmissions to be heard even though the speaker is on the bottom of that radio. There is a jack for adding an external speaker but it's not necessary.
My wife even likes the installation!:D

What's a CB radio? :8: :8:
Just kidding. I had one "back in the day".
You're talking to "The Chipmunk" good buddy.
I actually met a girl once via the radio. She sounded cute as a button on the airwaves... you guessed it, she looked like a button too!
Install looks nice. Enjoy. |
