Climate Control Wiring Harness - Click HERE for Original Thread

Does the Climate Controls have a wiring harness of some kind? I'd like to see a picture of the wiring that connects to the rear of it. I'm wondering if another Nissan's Climate Controls will work, since a lot of the ECUs, displays, etc. are shared across vehicles.

Here is one on eBay for the Maxima control from a 2004 model:

My idea is to install this Maxima temperature control and then get a new deck.

Just throwing ideas / wishful thinking out.

Actually, I think this is going to work. Check this bad boy out.

From the Maxima control:

Check out the connections at the top of the Murano head unit:

I found a totaled out Maxima and will be getting a price shortly on how much for those 2 pieces (Controls, Wire, and Box). If I can get it all cheaply, I'll test it out. If successful, I'm getting a Pioneer AVIC D3 installed.

I bet we don't even need the box, just the control buttons. I bet that grey wire shown in the first picture will unplug from the Murano climate control module and right into the Maxima buttons. I'm going to see how much that button cluster is new...

Looking at that last photo it appears that the MOs HVAC control module is a separate piece, at the top of the stack. Can it be separated from the stack? There also looks to be a ribbon cable on the front.

I would think so, the Maximas can be for sure, I would assume the Muranos also. You can buy the complete module and buttons from the 2004 - 2006 Maxima for under $100 shipped on eBay.

Trying to find a picture of the back of the head unit with just the circuit board. Anyone help? I want to buy all the Maxima parts and take them to a local shop. Then have them make me a kit. I'm 90% sure the Maxima controls are going to work.

Have them document it, it might bring some additional business.

Decided I'm going to do this myself or at least give it a shot. I have some eBay bids out on Maxima parts. Essentially the entire dash has to be replaced (all buttons top down) with the 2004 Maxima parts. The only downside is the Maxima radio controls (not player) are integrated into the display control strip. They're still small enough to get all controls plus a after market radio into the dash.

The good news is the harness is the same, so I can just order a 2004 Maxima wiring harness for the stereo and be all set.

If I can get the parts for $50 - $80 I'm going to do this in January or February.

Are you saying that you are using a piece from an old Maxima and putting in your Mo?

Are you replacing the HVAC only, or are you also replacing the radio in order to have an aftermarket radio in your Mo?

Post pictures on how this mod goes. I would love to get an aftermarket head unit into the MO without putting it way high or way low.

I'm going to find a used set of climate controls and the directional controls (includes maintenance button, fuel economy button, etc) from a 2004 or 2005 Maxima and use that in our vehicle. The problem with the Murano is the fact that the HVAC, Radio, and other maintenance controls are all integrated into one piece of green circuit board. So you can't replace the radio without losing everything listed above. The Maxima on the other hand has them nicely separated and has identical looking (to be tested/confirmed) connections. In addition, the 2004 Maxima is the only other Nissan that I'm aware of that has dual climate controls as well for the driver/passenger.

So my goal is to find a totaled Maxima and buy the entire dash unit so I can get both the HVAC controls and the directional buttons. I'll then dump the entire contents of the dash, install an aftermarket CD/DVD/Navigation system, install Maxima controls, and fabricate a dash or modify the existing dash for looks.

It is an extensive project, but I have high hopes. Step one is to get the controls, take the face off the radio, and test.

I am taking a $50 to $80 gamble on it. If I can't get it to work I'm going to just re-list the parts on eBay. No biggy.

I did some more research tonight. I've come to the conclusion that the whole radio, av switch, climate control, etc. cluster is going to have to go. It can't be re-used in this project. The Maxima controls are far to wide with that rubber bumper around the edge...

This weekend I"m going to go on eBay and hopefully win an auction on the entire Maxima dashboard. I'm going to harvest the parts I need and resell the rest. I'm going to try to fabricate a new dash once I get the parts tested.

So you're going to have sort of a Maxirano audio hybrid?
I know the Maxima has the same kind of screen as the Murano so it would seem if you literally pull out everything that deals with the display, a/c, and audio and put something entirely different in it's place it should work.

I thought about doing the same thing with an old Infinit FX radio. I know they're not as easy to come by as a Maxima, but I figured the radio's may be essentially similar--never did the homework to find out how similar/dissimilar the two systems are.

Good luck--you're giving me hope!

Just ordered the Pioneer AVIC D3. I am still trying to locate a Nissan Maxima "AV Switch". If I can't find one reasonable soon, I'm going to abort the project and put it in my Maxima.
Hilbe
I am thinking that if I do get the parts for this (high hopes), I am going to make a fiberglass mold. Then I'll make my own double din fiberglass dash kit to fit the Maxima controls. I have several bids out on eBay to get the parts, with my fingers crossed.

If successful in making this dash kit, I'll try my best to help others and make these available to everyone on demand.

Updates to follow.

I have received my AVIC-D3 so all I need now is the climate control. I just put an offer on a 2004 Maxima temperature control. We'll see if I get it. I think the AV switch (directional pad + maintenance buttons) in the Murano is a separate board (looking at pictures on forums here). I think I can re-use those controls.

I'm starting to think the fiberglass mold won't work since I think I'm going to need some wood framing inside. I'll probably just make a one off and take pictures so people can reproduce it.

Updates to follow once I get this climate control...
