From the website
===============
The AVID H4s/V4s radials are Yokohama's High Performance All-Season tires designed to take everyday driving to a new level of comfort and confidence. The AVID H4s/V4s radials were developed to provide sporty cars, coupes and sedans with good treadwear, responsive handling and year-round traction, even in light snow.

On the outside, Yokohama developed an all-new tread compound for the AVID H4s/V4s radials that delivers grip on dry, wet and snow-covered roads while setting new high mileage levels for H- and V-speed rated performance tires at Yokohama. This new tread compound is molded into a computer-optimized directional tread design that combines large independent shoulder blocks and intermediate blocks with a solid center rib to enhance straight line tracking and high-speed stability on dry roads. Four, wide circumferential grooves and multiple cross groves effectively evacuate water for hydroplaning resistance while slightly offset tread blocks further enhance light snow traction. On the inside, the AVID H4s/V4s features twin, high-tensile steel belts reinforced by nylon belt edge strips to provide responsive handling and high-speed durability.

I tried to get these tires 2 weeks ago and was told by 3 shops that the size needed for the Murano was brand new. As such the tire would not be available for 12-15 weeks because it had not yet shipped from overseas.

Wow, finally a car-like tire for the Murano other than the not-too-great oem Goodyears. I might try these out when my Yokos wear out.

Cool. I did not know about this one. Looks like a good tire as well. The Avid seems a little sportier with the V-shaped tread, but I bet the YK has better snow traction because it has more lateral grooves.

You can also get the Avid V4S in a 265/60/18 (same size as on the FX35) for $4 more per tire. I went with this size in the Falkens and am glad that I did.

This is the Falken but it shows the size:

you are right. I am considering the YK520 for my FX35. It seems a good pasenger car tire....the only concern I have is that they come with 60,000 miles warranty....they might be just a little bit too hard...
PopsCA
Kris, fwiw, I think those YK520s are exclusive for Discount Tire. Here's another one to check out too if you haven't. If I was to fork out a few more $$$, I would've loved to get the AVS S/T.

Yes, they are. I got my last set of GDY from Discount Tire and was happy with their service. It is very likely that I will go with them again, especially after treatment from Firestone..

Looking to put a set of AVID H4S on my 05 MO. Anyone have any experience with these tires that they can pass on?

These are the hardest tires to find on planet earth. They are nationally backordered and won't be available for at least 4-6 weeks!

WOW!!! The Toyo Proxes S/T is also a great tire in the same price range at $130/ea. If it were me, I'd go with the 285/50-18 in them that's spec'd to measure at 29.1" dia x 10.4" wide.

I considered the Toyos, but was concerned by some of the comments in this and other forums about road noise. Plus every tire guy I've spoken to in the last three days has agreed that the Yoko AVID is probably the best available tire for my particular tastes and vastly superior to the GY LS overall. 285/50 is way more tire than I want. I've run 275/55 on my Mercedes ML for several years, and even that's too much tire, IMO (too much rolling resistance, too much mass, and they pick up every nail and screw on the road). I was willing to go up to a 255/60, but had no luck finding anything I wanted in that size.

I was finally able to find a set of stock-sized AVIDs at a local (non-chain) tire store, so they're going on tomorrow. I didn't get a good deal, but I couldn't wait 6 weeks. Wish me luck!

I just got new 265-60-r18s and the mo rides a ton better, thats that size for it. Thats the same size that fits on FX

Actually if anything, it should ride a little worse, as larger/wider tires increase unsprung weight. Maybe your FX wheels are lighter than Nissan OEM wheels. Btw, I think only the FX35 came with 18" wheels - the FX45 were 20".

I have 265/60/18 and they are great. You will lose a little bit of gas mileage though, like 1-2mpg due to the wider tread.

FX35 - 18", FX35Sport - 20", FX45 - 20". Even the "normal" FX35 has much stiffer suspension than Murano, even the SE one.

Eric, I agree with the ride part. I guess people mistaken ride with handling....

Took the car down to have the AVIDs installed this morning and they were the wrong size (I'm glad I asked to see them before then went on!). Looks like I'll have to wait a month or more to get my hands on a set. :(

Michelins cost a bit more but they are also an awesome tire that might fit your needs. Quiet, very lightweight, great traction, great TWI (65k limited Warr), etc.... They are Silica-Rubber which sounds like it might be what you're after.

Thanks, Pops (the only sane one on Speed Racer, if you ask me). I've had Michelin CTs on my Mercedes for about 2 years, and while it's a very nice (though fairly expensive) tire, I think it's a little more "trucky" than what I'm looking for. I see the Murano as more of a tall car than a low SUV, and I'd prefer a tire that not only looks more like a car tire, but also one that has a bit of a performance bias to it. The AVID seemed to fit the bill as best I could tell, and if I have to wait, I'll wait.

The AVIDs are once again available nationally in the Murano's 235/65-18 size. Just got mine installed today, so once I get a chance to drive around a little bit, I'll post my thoughts.

Mine just came in. I going to have them put on Saturday. I hope they are better than the super water gliders better known as Eagle LS's
RonB
I love them. They are road grippers. I can't really comment on the noise level because I put them on to replace my snow tires (btw Pirelli Snow&Ice are excellent) so pretty much anything was going to be better. They seem to be just as quiet or quieter than the oem's from what I can remember.

They have done very well in the rain.

I would recommend them to anyone wanting to get away from the Eagles.

Best Regards,
Ron
