Have you seen the report just out on the cost of repairing mini-vans? I think it is relative to all new vehicles.
The Nissan Quest was worst, for the consumer, than all others with over $8000 damages in a 3-6 mph front end bump. The least was $5000 for the Honda.
One expert said the engineers should do a better job of designing the bumpers. Notice above I said "For the consumer." I think they are engineering just the right product, for the auto companies.
I had a neighbor in Shreveport once who's brother was an engineer for GM back in the '70's when the front wheel drive cars came out. He helped design the rear suspension of those vehicles.
After a few years the management team asked him to re-engineer the design of the rear suspension. He said he was not aware of any defects in the current design. They said that was the problem, they were not selling any replacement parts.
He quit telling them he would not "Undesign" for them. |

| It is true that modern bumpers are very expensive to repair, but their job is to serve as the first line of crash energy absorption, not to look pretty. So if my bumper cracks, well at least I know it absorbed energy from the collision. I don't even want to know how much it would cost to repair the Murano's bumpers. The front hardly has one, as the nose/grille stick out like an arrow. |

Rear bumper is roughly 674.74 which includes labor. I got a new one yesterday cause some stupid lady decided that red lights and cars in front of her are not valid reasons to stop.
I didnt have any frame damage or anything like that, just a gash in the plastic bumper, so price was for bumper, paint, and and install. |

It's not all that bad for the Murano. Wifey recently wrecked hers and I'm looking at about $300 - $400 for the parts to do it myself since it was low impact and mostly cosmetic. Getting it painted is going to be the expensive part for me.
