PAC AAI-NIS2 vs. Tape Adapter - Click HERE for Original Thread

Is there a noticable sound quality difference between the 2? This would be for a RoadyXT XM Sat receiver. Thanks.

IMHO I'd say yes.

The tape deck has a white noise sorta hum in the back ground. You can also hear the tape spinning and clicking.

Aux in is much better, plus you can have wire put somewhere more convenient than straight out of the face of the radio.

I don't have the PAC, I have the actual nissan magic box.

You can get GOOD quality tape adapters for under $20, and they actually sound pretty good. I use that for my wife's car, and USED to use it in the MO since I tried two different "high-end" FM transmitters that sucked.

In my opinion, a tape adapter is a perfectly viable option, and it is cheap. Music quality is OK, if you're not an audiophile.

HOWEVER, once you have the real thing (be it PAC or whatever) you won't really want to go back.

I would compare Tape vs. Direct to be similar to having a good quality FM signal to a local radio station compared to putting in a CD. FM sounds fine, CD is definitely better.

So you have to balance the cost vs. sound quality. Also consider that if you hard-wire it in and route the cables properly, you don't have the cord from the tape adapter getting in the way of anything.

We use the MO for long trips, and my wife's car for daily commuting. It's worth it for me to have the direct connection for the MO, but perfectly acceptable to have the tape quality for the commute.

I have a whole pile of tape adapters in my junk drawer. They've been earmarked for scavenging because they are really just that bad. I'm a long way from an audiophile, but I don't like hearing "click...click...click....click" from my tape deck while listening to softer music.

I can't wait to get the PAC and install it in my MO. Nissan magic box? Haven't heard that one before. What is it?

I've used it for about a year. It is much better than the FM transmitter for sound quality and appearance.

Hope this helps.

I bought and installed the PAC unit and while the sound quality is better and there is no click-click from the tape adapter, the volume is somewhat less than exceptional. I have the volume turned up to about half the total alowable volume on the head unit just for normal listening. I have adjusted the audio out on my RoadyXT to max. It's a little disappointing that the volume is so affected. I wonder if there is some kind of volume booster available to work with the PAC to increase the volume to a more "normal" level. Thanks and Happy NewYear.
